Hi,

I've a 2005 2.0 Litre TDi Sport.
BKD engine.

Car has been slow to start the past 2 weeks.
It will turn over but sometimes it wouldn't start first time, next time it would.

Got even worse yesterday.
It refused to start several times.

This morning it was different - started and cut out 3x times.
Then it started.

And since then I've tried about 10 times, only once did it start.

When I turn on the ignition the lights in the dash come on and then go out.
Sometimes the coil light comes on again and goes out.
Other times the Tyre Pressure and ESP lights come back on and stay on.

has anybody else ever had this problem?
Any ideas what to try?

Contacted mechanic friend who is on holidays so can't scan car.
Suggested I disconnect battery and connect the 2 battery cables to each other. Something about resetting something.

Tried it but not much better.
Still intermittently starting but now the tyre pressure, esp and steering lights are on permanently.

Seems better since taking a drive. Tyre pressure, esp and steering lights not permanently in any more.
Has started several times since.
Will be getting car hooked up to diagnostics next week.

sorry for lack of updates.
lot of time spent trying to diagnose & fix (not by me).
was hoping that ignition switch or relay was the cause. these have now been eliminated.

Looks like an ECU issue.
Unfortunately this isn't the first time I've had a startup issue related to ECU :(

Did you read my thread, is it any comparison to your prob.

I've read you're thread... very unusual.
Its a bit different to mine but more frustrating I'd say.
At least mine is now consistent :) in that it won't start at all now :(

Hope you get it sorted soon.

ECU repair has fixed the issue.
Didn't use dealer this time.
Guy who did repair not too sure why issue happened, suggests it could have been a spike from the alternator

haven't a clue what they actually do.
It was fixed by same guy who fixed it the last time.

Cost about 280. which includes mechanic trying to find source of problem which was ECU
