I’ve Had my car from November 2020. When driving along I would often get a ECO Symbol come up on the bottom right of the digital cockpit. I thought this was the engine going into 3 cylinder mode. Under acceleration this would disappear. All of a sudden it’s stopped happening and I’ve also noticed a slight reduction in mpg. Anyone has this issue? Thanks

Should be 2 cylinders I think!?

Yes, it switches from four to two cylinders under certain operating conditions.

@mdr1840 - It does makes sense that if, for whatever reason, two cylinder mode isn’t activating when it should, then the engine will use more fuel and mpg will be worse. Sorry, don’t know why two cylinder mode would stop functioning. It’d probably be worth getting the car scanned for fault codes to see if there are any codes stored that could help explain what’s preventing the engine switching to two cylinder mode.

It happened on my MK 3.5 suddenly stopped working for couple of weeks. There were no strange noises or engine running badly to indicate some form of mechanical failure and was about to book it into the dealer for checking and it started working again.

There are a number of conditions that must be met before ACT mode activates, it might be that one of them isn't being met at the moment e.g. temperature?

Also check your fuel economy - if it's really low then it means that the car is needing to do a regen on the GPF. That might explain why it's not going into 2 cylinder mode
