A workmates Leon Cupra TDi has just been serviced. It seems like a lot of work was done, could the dealer have taken advantage of it being a fleet car? It's 18 months old and had a full 40k service, all new brake discs and pads, cambelt and waterpump because it was leaking. Plus they only spotted the fans were broken after it was scheduled for collection despite been told when we dropped it off that it needed new fans and probably a fusebox too. They insisted it could be a wiring fault then had to keep it an extra day because they didn't have the parts.

Apart from the fans does this sound like a lot of work? They did say that if it was a private vehicle they would have tried to get the cambelt done under warrenty as it should have lasted at least 60k.

Mainly I'm a bit woried because my car needs a service in the next month and they are the closest and I don't want to get ripped off.

Cam belt is a check at 60K and only replace if needed!

Sounds to me like either they're on the scam or the car's been ragged to within an inch of its life!

Not true for a diesel, should be changed at 60 or 80K depending on age of vehicle

I think you got it right about making the most of it being a fleet car. Neverthelss any decent fleet company would not authorise the waterpump and fan replacement, they would expect it to be done under warranty, probably the same for the cambelt. At the end of the day your mate shouldn't see any invoice, the service stuff would go to thelease company, the warranty to SEAT UK.

Simply dont let the dealer do anything without your authority. Let them do the service but if they start recommending more work don't be afraid to say you will book it in for extra work at a later date and get a second opinion, off here is a good start. How old is your car, what service is due?

The fans and pump were done under warranty, but were just part of the poor service that make me intend to go out of my way to avoid them.

We told them the fans didn't work when we dropped it off and when it was booked in over the phone so it was on the printed sheet. When they asked when we wanted to collect it we said 4pm. Didn't get a call from them so phoned at 3.30 to check it was ready. They said not till 4.30. Then at 4.15 we are on the way and get a call to say the fans and fuse box are fubar and it won't be ready till tomorrow (friday).
