5F0060884BG need latest map sd card

Apologies if this is a silly question but just been informed by my local dealership that not only do they want over £100 to order this SD card for me but they also need my car in for an hour in order to install the maps, as the card needs to be paired with my car.
Is it really that much of a rigmarole, or do these map packs come with instructions that would allow a Luddite like myself to do the update at home?

Hi is there a later version of maps for my mib1 unit? This came with the car I recently bought and the sd card says v6.
