Is this the big 1?

I know the cambelt has to be done.

Also i've recently had my ecu light on for many reasons recently all replaced i think!! (as in i can't tell if it actually is!)

But now it seems as though a secondary air pump that warms up the cat on cold starts is causing the problem? and the light is on again! But would this cause my ecu light to come on? And would this be a problem like blow my engine up!!

Hi,

First question- service.

I recently got my 60k service which included the cam belt replacement, as well as waterpump etc which is reccomended at the time. This plus the service cost me £400.

Second question- ecu light.

I also have this persistant problem with the ecu light coming on due to the secondary air pump. I've had it tested and it works ok but still registers the fault occasionaly. Your car will still be ok to drive.

60k service is cambelt check, cambelt change is on 120k!

Got my 60k service on friday (3 k early) but gotta get it in, will be supplying my own oil, and telling them that they do nothing else without telling me!

Check the maintenance manual that came with the car, it says what's done on each service interval!

cambelt change is 60k, many dealers confuse it with the external drive belt.

timing belt is the important one.

So i should be worried about the timing belt not the cambelt?

Yea my light has gone off again now and seems to going really well again!! Did you end up replacing your secondary air pump in the end?

I'm getting my ko3s and fmic etc etc ... done very soon just don't want a silly problem spoiling the fun!

Got mine done at Star Performance.

Would'nt trust my main dealers to do a oil change, never mind a 60k service.

Air pump prob- I just get it reset everytime theres a fault. Maybe replace it one day but it's not really a priority at the mo.

Techincally the cambelt should be changed at 120,000.

But now VAG have added that the cambelt must be inspected at 60,000 miles and 20,000 miles there after thus shifting the responsibility over to the dealer if it breaks before 120,000.

I dont know how you can check a cambelt without removing it and by that time you might aswell change it, so they get done at 60,000.

Star Performance is the tuning garage i use which is in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland.

www.starperformance.co.uk

I got mine done at 60k which was reccomended to me as the belt snaps due to the tensioner wheel siezing and stripping the teeth from the belt.

Better to spend £250 for it now than risk £1000+ if it snapped due to not doing it.
