Hi all.
I bought a 6J FR for my daily commute, which is around 50 miles a day on poor to good smaller roads.

On the bumpier stuff, the car ties itself in absolute knots as it just feela poorly damped.

The car has 32k on the clock and FSH.

Has anyone replaced the stock dampers for something with better control ?

thanks !

Maybe a previous owner has already changed suspension components for the worse?
Having driven both standard set ups, for country lane commutes I found the softer and slightly higher TOCA/SE suspension ideal.
It is a much better compromise for rough roads. On 215/45R16s ours handled and rode beautifully on the 25 miles of rippled and lumpy rural tarmac going to work.

I’ve not looked hard, but a cursory glance suggests they are stock dampers…
It’s a shame as it’s spoiling my enjoyment of the car tbh.

When I had my Ibiza (mind you on FR suspension and 215/40/R17 tyres). As I'm used to the car, I didn't feel it was bouncy / bumpy on broken road. However my dad who's used to a Mini Cooper, said that the Ibiza was very bouncy on country roads when he drove it a bit here in UK. Then after the Ibiza I went into Volvo V40, and roads that I remembered were bouncy (jarring and jittery) were no longer so. So perhaps yes the Ibiza does have this 'quirk' but you wouldn't know until you drive (or come from) another car with a more dampened suspension.

Interesting.

previously I ran a 140 Celica and that was perfect on the same roads…..
Ran that far for 11 years.

mine became more bouncy after changing from OEM to Sachs dampers at 140.000kms, would not change today.
