A/C button wont stay on need help

i have just bought i 1.8 leon mk1 and the climate control unit was broken so i got a second hand 1 which was told was all working but when connecting to the car it all works apart from when i press the A/C button it flicks up but does not stay on the screen can anyone help??? thanks

a/c refrigerant might be low or system is dry. it might need a recharge.

As above, if the refrigerant gas is low then the system won't switch on.

Go and get it checked for leaks and topped up if it can be, then it will be nice and icy!

The new unit may need coding to the car. Get it on Vagcom and see what you get.

Shouldn't need coding to the car. Get VCDS hooked up and look at the output temperature of the G89 intake air temperature sensor. What does the outside temp display on the dashboard say?
