Hi there

My 1.8 Turbo Alhambra won't start intermitantly.

The engine cranks but won't fire.
The oil light flashes and a beeping noise is made.
Oil level is good and when left for 45 mins or so car starts ok.

Has now started to cut out whilst driving. The oil light comes on and won't start again . Anoher 45 mins and usualy starts ok again. Again oil level is normal.

Think it may be electrical faulty sensor??

Any ideas.

is a 1999 model petrol engine.

cheers:help:

the beeping could be a couple of things? possible crank position sensor? or just a duff battery? both these faults are known to cause beebing and bad starting! try jump starting the car and see that helps? r just give the battery a charge over night just to boost it! if it helps get the battery checked out or just replace it as going die eventually!
IIRC unless the engine is running the oil light will flash as there is no pressure being built up to to exstinguish it!
another cause of bad starting on the 1.8T is the engine temp sensor?
see if you can get the fault codes read and go from there?
another thing? what does the led on the door do when this occurs?

firstly thanks for your input.

the battery is fairly new and tried jump starting it the other day with no improvement.

i'm gonna phone someone today about getting the fault codes read.

will check the led on the door as i thought it may be immobilizer related too.

any idea where the temp sensor is located as i can't get hold of a workshop manual for the car??

Have managed to get the fault code reader on and indicating a fault with the rpm sensor.

This is seemingly stopping the spark?

ANyone else had this problem and know how much a replacement might cost?.
