At the moment I'm on my mum's insurance, on CIS, and pay about £720 a year.

I want to get my own policy so I can start attempting to get No Claims bonus, and be able to drive my girlfriend's dads BMW 6 series around country roads.

I'm 18, no no claims bonus or claims as I've never had my own policy, and live in the lowest risk area.

My car has no mods, but I'm still getting quotes of around £2100 online.

I tried adding my mum as a named driver, and that didn't take too much off it, but I'm sure it should be cheaper, as it's the car below that I'm trying to insure, it's not even worth much more than £2100.

Any suggestions on how to make it cheaper, why it's so expensive, or companies I should try?

I've tried CIS and Elephant online, as well as one of those things that search around for you.

Cheers

insurance is a ******* when you're young. But it gets better after a couple of years

try autotrader.co.uk - there is a good 'search' thing on there that checks a wide range

If this is for the 1.4 on your sig i would imagine you can get cheaper insurance than that, try, quotemehappy.com or confused.com (who check loads of different companies at once) and quotelindirect.com who did me £600 on a 1.1 mk1 golf which was my first car, good luck mate !

theres an insurance company advertising on tv where all drivers on the policy are awarded with no claims discount, i think its directline, keep my eyes open for you, that way you could stay on your mums policy, failing that try elephant and put your mum on your policy, sounds daft but it lowered mine by £400, hope this helps, daz

Just go on confused, even just to see the range of quotes you get. They got me quotes of ~£400 to over a grand for my Leon.

Theres no real way around it. When you are ~18 and have 0 NCB insurance is going to be a fortune.

Best way to go about it is buy a 1.1, stick your parents on as 2nd/3rd drivers, limit the mileage and go TPFT.

I'm now 23 and can get insured on my cupra for £430 FC.

at that sort of prices id go 3rd party fire and theft.

also when did you pass your test?
if its less than a year ago id wait till its more than a year even if you didnt have your own insurance as you are then classified as experinced.
seriously, i know you are not experinced in 1 year, but its true it helps a little.

also id def try ringing around.
elephant id imagine would go for consistent low risk people.

when i was younger swinton wasnt too bad.
but that was a long time ago.

i went with 'performance direct' a few times when i was 18-21 if they are still about try them.

oh, and you really think that getting your own policy will mean you can drive the BMW... sorry, no way is that gonna happen

Quotelinedirect.com were good for my first car, but i was 21 when i passed my test  late starter.....
It was a 1.1 mk1 for £600 fc, which meant i also was insured to drive other cars tpft which was great, so maybe you could also look at getting a banger to build your no claims and drive your ibiza third party?, then after a year switch the policy car to your ibiza
