Which cables are the cars supplied with and do they provide the old or new ipod connection?

Thanks

Mine came with two. The ipod one was the old style connector (not the lightning connector or whatever that new one is called). The other one was a usb connector I think, not sure on that though cos it's in the glovebox and I am inside the house :)

Agree with that. 2 leads, only one can be connected at a time. I have an iphone 5 so use an adapter which works just fine.

Yup 2 leads one for iPod one for USB. I've just got an Audi MMI red collared lead though, so my screen will display video and album art from my iPod touch. The supplied SEAT iPod lead only supports audio.

Interesting, thanks for that. I've just ordered one. I have a spare ipod touch, could be an incentive to get it sorted and leave in the glove box.

Just a note of caution that not all iPods support the red collar lead - for example it didn't work at all with my 4th gen nano (didn't even recognise it was plugged in)

And these are the audio only supported devices (so will be a waste of time)

iPod nano
iPod 4G (version 1.2.1 ), iPod Video 5G , iPod classic 6G
iPod touch

Hi Zboyd, I tried 4F0051510R which is the one you link to and it didn't work. This is on an ipod nano 5g with the correct firmware. I've just ordered the one I linked to which someone else posted a part number for 2 weeks ago, hopefully I'll have more luck. I wish the other cable DID work its much cheaper!

I can't comment on a 5G Nano, as I don't have one to test. But video and audio worked fine with my 1G iPod Touch.

If I remember correctly there was an option in the settings for the media system, which had to be enabled.

I can only assume, when Apple started messing with pin-out configs on their leads (they changed the way the analog leads worked) a year or so before they brought out the lightening port, and iOS software revisions messed it up too.

So it probably doesn't work with those devices that were updated past a certain iOS version.

I have the Lightening to Analog converter for my iPhone5, I'll plug that in and try it, I'd expect that won't work properly though.

The video looks great and its nice to see the album art as well rather than my current "default" icons. Why they can't supply the correct leads as standard is beyond me.

I'll report in when the new cable arrives.

So my iPhone 4S should work fine with this then?

My cable arrived yesterday and works great - so the cable i'm using is 000051446M. It had vw/audi ID3 tag mmi cable written on the packet it came in. I'm wondering why they wrote ID3 on it and whether its significant to displaying the album art as perhaps on the ID3 tag is where it is stored. I have seen other cables with ID3 written on them during my 2 week search and wonder if they would work also.

So, to recap, I now have album art, the response time is much faster than it was before when moving between tracks, and the time taken to recognize the iPod and begin playing after starting the engine is a world away from what it was before. This is with a iPod 5g nano.
