Becker AM Radio reception/Speed dependent volume

Hi,

I have had my Becker Grand Prix headunit for nearly 10 months. I only ever listen to CD/MP3 and on the rare occasion FM radio. I had my dad in the car yesterday and he wanted to listen to TalkSport on AM radio. To our surprise I did not pick up any radio stations on the AM band. Any ideas why this could be? I don't have any reception issues on FM radio and both FM and AM radio used to work fine on the Aura headunit. It is not a big issue as I don't listen to AM radio but just curious as to whether this is an issue that can be fixed. I have amped my headunit and added new speakers recently, but am positive I did try AM radio when I first got the headunit and it didn't work then either. It was probably something that didn't work and I couldn't be bothered to fix.

Also speed dependent volume doesn't work. Any idea how I can sort this out too?

Thanks in advance.

I purchased one of the the PC5-52 adapters but the radio reception is still the same. I still get FM but get no stations on AM. What could be the problem?

I think I have the standard aerial that came with the car; it is the same style you see on standard MKIV Golf's. As far as I know, I don't think it has not been modified. I was surprised to find though that the car must have had an upgraded sound system at some point, as there were RCA and amp power cables already in the car that had just been chopped. It would have made the install a lot easier if the cables were left in but because they were chopped, I had to lay down new cables. I therefore do not know if the aerial cable has also been modified in some way.

I had the same problem with my old Becker and the standard aerial. Never did work up until the day I sold the car.

That's a bit of a bummer. It really isn't that much of an issue though. I just thought it might be worth trying to get AM working with the World Cup being on right now. I don't really listen to AM that often anyhow.

Cheers,
