'Better Quality' Flywheel?

Hi,

Need to get my flywheel replaced. Wondering if there is a better quality one available, are the standard ones failing a common issue? Don't fancy a bill a few years down the line! Is there a better one out there?

What engine? Are you talking about Dual Mass Flywheels?

The DMFs are well known for being shite if the car is driven like its been designed to, for instance the FR badge is ment to signify a sporty presence. Unfortunately manufacturers tend to use the same brands that are readily available to the public like Sachs and LUK, so unless you find a specialist manufacturer for an uprated part your alternative is a aftermarket Single mass flywheel or drive the car slowly. They tend to last a lot longer if not worked too hard. This is my opinion anyway !

Thinking about it, I've replaced the DMF on all 4 Seat's I've owned : ( and only 2 had been remapped. One without being mapped was done under warranty at 25K.

Was looking at getting an Astra before opting for the FR.. decided I wouldn't risk getting an Astra as there were reviews everywhere saying the DMF's on them were crap! Are all DMF's in general crap then?

What causes a DMF to go bad? Is it stop/start?

I was thinking about your question and taking a guess I'd say regular flat out booting the accelerator at low rpm and low speed in 3rd/4th would put tons of torque stress on the drivetrain, hence putting tons of stress on the DMF possibly binning it off early...that's just my guess.

Plus the other thing being sometimes manufacturers don't always use the very very strongest materials to make their kit as they'd go out of business eh Everything's a compromise with price/wear I'd guess.

I might be wrong on both points so people, just don't go mad at me
