If you want the fastest acting wax in my personal opinion then you could always try P21S Wax - it is a hard wax in a tub but when applied it is almost like a paste. No waiting time required, just wipe on with the supplied sponge applicator one panel at a time and then wipe straight off. Normally for bonnet and roof I do one half of it before wiping it off.

Here is my car done last week with it:

As always preparation is key so the first time you are advised to use a polish or a cleaner to remove those contaminants from your paintwork. If you have new paintwork then I would recommend a cleaner such as CarLack-68 as opposed to a polish. My reasoning behind this is because CarLack contains absolutely no abrasive agents and therefore will be completely safe to apply to your paintwork by hand without risk of minor swirling. The added benefit is that it also applies a hard durable acrylic seal that will last you a good few months in terms of protection against the harsh winter elements. Some elbow grease is required in applying this product though - basically you do the entire car and then between 30-45 mins (from the first point of application) until it has cured sufficiently. You then remove the excess using a half decent MicroFibre cloth. This will leave you a high gloss finish that is the perfect partner to P21S. CarLack-68 provides the high gloss and combined with P21S legendary depth of shine you will end up getting a brilliant wet look.

You can layer the P21S as many times as you want (obviously you need to wash the car in between) to build up that protective wax layer (and looks). However, CarLack-68 can not be layered as it contains cleaning agents so therefore it will act like a polish (though not abrasive) and remove any previous layers of wax if re-applied. This isn't a problem though because you dont need to reapply the CarLack-68 for a good few months as it already provides you with a good protective seal. Rule of thumb is to normally apply CarLack-68 every 3-4 months and top up with wax every 1 week to 1 month depending on how bothered you can be. ;)

Hope this helps.

Any decent car shampoo such as Meguiars, P21S, Zymol et al - even Sonax that you can get from Costco for a 5 litre bottle. They have all been designed for car wax in mind. The betters ones (I can't speak for Sonax because they refused to supply me with the MSDS sheets) contain absolutely no sodium reducing the risk of oxidisation and potential corrosion in the long term.
