to be honest i had the same problem with the guides and kind of followed them but did it without getting any fault codes or using any diodes like some do.
the way i did it is quite simple pm me the picture if you can and ill explain draw on the photo what you need to do.

i know it wasnt the exact way to do it when i did it but bill at badger 5 gave it the ok the way i did it so it cannot be all bad.

i didnt bother with all that, i got a recirc blow off valve off ebay and it works great.

not a blow off valve then the vag 1.8t doesnt like blow off valves and will show a cell light and probably wont run right hence my advise above.
recirculation valves are the only way on the 1.8t if you do all of what i have said above your get more noise from your recirc valve without any of the problems of a blow off/atmostheric valve.

It looks to me like an atmospheric dump valve or a forge splitter type which is half n half. U get a lot of problems running one of these the vag engine is designed to re circulate all waste air. Mine is loud enough and still makes ppl jump with a open cone forge 007 and n249 bypass

A Baught a dump valve off eBay which is totally the wrong one as it blanks off the pipe to the air supply, just ordered a new one. Forge split r recirculating and blow off dump valve. That a good one?? Sorry but my previous cars were non turbo haha

I hope u have a code reader, because as soon as ur car starts ur dash will light up like a Christmas tree. The car is designed to use 100 percent of the waste air and if it doesn't it will throw a wobbler n need plugging in. And putting a forge splitter on is a sure way to do this. Should of just got a forge 007p full recirc valve
