After finally getting out in the leon last night i was told by my mate the drivers side brake light bulb at the back wasnt working. I checked it today and the bulb is working its like it doesnt make contact with the tracks properly although secure! After tapping the light cluster it finally works and havent had problems yet. Is this common? Is there anything i should check out? Also there are extra plugs in the plastic housing what are they for?

My brake lights blew 3 times within 12 months, so it may be a contact issue.

The electrics really suffer when a brake light goes as well - when mine pop, everytime I press the brake, my headlights flash ?????

That's because the broken filament from the brake light circuit has contacted the other filament (for your tail lights) in the bulb. So whenever you press the brake you're making a circuit with your normal lights circuit, hence the headlight flash....if you see what I mean.....!!!
