Spoke to a witness an hour ago - got told he saw empty beer cans in his car and a crate in his boot. Words can't describe the emotion/anger that flooded over me.

I am also worried about chassis, but hoping the fact the wheel took the impact and sheered straight off has saved the car.

She's going to a Seat/VW dealership for evaluation - not an independant-insurance-ass-kissing repair shop.

Update - blew 71mg at the station and charged.

Car is with VW now and will be stripped down and assessed tomorrow.

35mg i believe. So twice the legal limit. I've been reliably informed that if an average size bloke had 5 pints they would blow about 51mg.

Oh, and was told he had empty beer cans in the car and an open crate in the boot...

Sorry to hear about your car, and especially having it for a month, I would've literally got out and battered the guy in the BMW. Hope you're ok and doing well mate and fingers crossed you get the Leon back...she is an absolute looker, especially in yellow!

Well today the insurance company uttered those dreadful words - your car is a total loss...

To be fair it was something I was expecting but i'd not posted anything earlier because i wanted confirmation first. The estimate for repair from the VW garage came to £14k, and that was before they stripped her down and found anything else hiding away.

I'm now in the process of negotiating a settlement figure with my insurance company and to be fair to them they have decided to take their time to get a proper valuation based on the options, low mileage and condition - the guy said to me on the phone that he wasn't going to make an offer on the spot because he knew i would laugh at him (or swear at him). He's told me to send evidence of how much similar age, spec, mileage R's are going for locally.

So the search starts for my next Cupra R - i really started to fall in love with this car, so hopefully her twin sister can fill the void.....

Mate i am genuinly sorry for you. Its good you seem to be getting good seecive from your insurance company. Plus even if they had fixed it. When you came to sell it. Would be at a massivly reduced price as would be cat c or whatever. Just trying to find a silver lining :)

Gutted for you.

Do you know where the car will end up as it will have quite a few bits and pieces on it that would help some people on here :)

If I don't buy it back and sell on to somebody to fix then I will do my best to find out where its going to.

To be honest I'm relieved it has been wrote off because it wouldn't have felt the same, at least now I can get a straight undamaged car to replace it.
