Can't say I am impressed with the bobble effect paint work at the bottom of the sides of the car, would a plastic side skirt not have been a better option? Especially on the FR.

That's stone gaurd that's painted over. If they didn't use the stone gaurd the sills would be vulnerable to damage if anything hit them and quickly rust, sill cost the customer a lot of money to replace.
I know what its there for, it just seems to me that a plastic cover over some rustproofing would look a hell of a lot better.
