Buying an Alhambra - New baby on the way...

Hi Guys,

We are planning to trade in my wife's SEAT Leon (Mk2) for an ALHAMBRA !
With recent news of a 2nd baby, we decided the additional space/flexibility of this MPV will be alot more practical.

From a Buyers perspective, any tips or pointers on what to look out for?

Comparing this MPV to a family car (ie her current Leon), what nice extras should we expect, or request, with the Alhambra?

I think Parking Sensors would be VERY useful. I'm also sure my wife would appreciate these too, considering it will be that much larger, and tricky for her to manouvre / reverse / park.

They all appear to have a multi display, with what looks like GPS??
Is the GPS any good, compared to say a dedicated GPS unit, ie: TomTom/Garmin?

Thankyou in advance.

ps: We did keep our options open and consider a handful of MPV's, however the SEAT (Alhambra) kept coming up with a maximum 5/5 Star rating on the various Car review websites - plus staying with SEAT is an easy choice for us. :)

Return 2 weeks later - Fantastic response! Cheers.
Obviously people dont think much for the Alhambra here.

....not to worry, we've since been out car hunting, and have decided instead, we might not go for the Alhambra, instead go for the more luxurious VW TOURAN! lol. :p

You haven't specified if you are looking for new (current model) or something older but I assume new.
I doubt many forum members will have much knowledge of the new one as the usual reason for joining forums is to pick the brains of others when you have problems and the new model won't be at that stage yet. I looked at a new Sharan the other day and it's BIG BIG BIG
The Touran is OK but has had expensive faults in the past, the new Grand C-Max gets good reports as of course does the Zafira even if it's a lttle bit boring. Altea XL is worth considering but the visibility is poor (very poor in fact)
If you can find a nearly new old model Alhambra 2.0TDI SE (or 1.9TDI SE Auto) you will get an awful lot of car with an awful lot of toys for not too much money

Just an update, we sold my wifes Leon in the end and bought a NEW Honda CR-V !

Stunning vehicle, different class to the SEAT, SO luxurious inside (top spec model), full leather heated & electrically adjusting seats, touch screen multimedia display/system, reversing camera + front & rear parking sensors, Xenon HIDs that follow the direction you turn, satellite navigation, full length glass roof, electric everything, plus alot more 'COOL' factor than a people carrier! lol... :p

Also tempted now to shop in my own Leon FR for a performance Honda... Decisions.

Cheers to all those that replied to my query above... errr, just the 1 person then!

You did not reply to the question that was asked of you as to if the vehicle was being bought new or second hand so I don't think you can moan about not getting any answers.

Well, you pays your money and you takes your choice. The CR-V is a fine vehicle. I was put off by the fact I didn't own an oil well and the suspicion that Honda had apparently forgotten to link the steering wheel to the road wheels. As 90landrover says, as you didn't respond to my initial question, you shouldn't be surprised you got no further input

There is also the small matter of where to put the sixth and seventh passengers in the CR-V

A buyers market at the moment, some deals to be had. Top motor and good luck hunting. Don't be put off by some of the prices, like I said deals to be had.
