Centre Console Permenantly Illuminated

For some reason, the centre console in my ibiza has been permenantly illuminated since the other night.

Everything seems normal except for this. Its starting to drain the battrey now though.

I tried disconecting the battrey. When I reconected it everything seemed normal. The console screen didn't light up until I turned on the ignition, but when I turned it off again the console stayed illuminated!

Its an Ibiza 1.6 Sport (Xreg 2000) if that makes any difference.

Any ideas anyone?

when you say permanently illuminated do you mean even when the engines completely off and the key is out?

if so might be worth getting the wiring from the sidelight/headlight switch checked since thats most likely to turn it on with the key out

This has been quite a common problem with the beeza around that age. Unscrew the facia from the h/u and check there's no loose connections. It's worth doing a search on this as it's been covered before. In the mean time, remove the fuse when you leave the car to save your battery! Welcome to SCN btw!!

Yea it stay's on when engine is off, key out, etc. Would the sidelights/headlights not stay on too if this was the case?

Is removing the facia fairly simple? I'll have a look but don't want to end up taking the whole dash apart!

When you say remove the fuse, do you just mean one of the ones on top of the battery?

I'll go do a search now.

Thanks again,

Geoff

Its your head unit mate. Mine did it before and all i did was to disconnect it then connect it back up and hey presto it was back to normal. Theres only 2 screws to take off the facia and 4 screws to take out the stereo. Give us a shout if you dont understand mate
