I find they do develop a slimey texture if they are kept damp.

Im guessing its not a great idea to keep leather wet as it would start to break down / rot ?

I used a micro fibre towel now, sucks up more water and you bung it in the washer after each use.

I find a chamois leaves quite a shiny strek free finish, are MF just as good as that? Ive never used anything But a chamois

Is it really worth it just to get a meg water magnet(If your on a budget - as i constantly am)?

The MF is much softer and easier on the paint. Helps to cut down on swirling, etc... Especially so with dark paint work.

At the end of the day you can machine wash the MFs but the chamois will just collect dirt over time.

great, so just normal MF towels from Tesco? I use MF as a polish applicator aswell - same sort?

The water magnet is very good as it absorbs an awful lot of water. I uuummed and ah'd over the cost of it before I got one but it really was worth it.

There are a couple of cheaper things that are similar around. Motorgeeks have some. There are also some on eBay.

I bought a megs water magnet and find it complete rubbish tbh doesnt lift the water at all and is far too hard, do you need to wash it before use or something?

Someone local can get them for £10.80 - but im thinking i'll just get some from tesco, if im really amazed then ill just stick to it, if not ill just get a water magnet.

Im gonna detail the car the best i can once the exams are over, iv been gradually buying all the stuff for then !

They're with all the other car cleaning stuff I believe.

Netto are doing decentish MF cloths @ 99p each ATM.

If you're keen on detailing I'd go for a Megs Water Magnet or the Poorboys equiv from Motorgeeks though...
