Has anybody out there chipped either an Altea or NEW Leon 105bhp 1.9tdi......was wondering if the percentage increase in power (150bhp) was way too much for it...........I was thinking about doing it on my wifes car as Star Performance are having a sale in march £299 inc VAT

Any news?

Hi, have had my Altea for one week now and very pleased, yet to see anther one on the road so I still feel special :D I like the idea of upping the power, is there any feedback yet on chipping these engines? There's seems to be a few different options in terms of price/performance gains/quality, are there any suggestions/recommendations for specific units?
POLKR, I have only seen 125bhp, not 150bhp, any idea if this amount of power would cause any problems withthe traction control?

I have the same engine in my A3 and was remapped for a similar sum IIRC through

http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=00217&product=FMIPROSEA
These figures are 'conservative' I believe

I believe they have a netwrok of UK outlets...very smoooooooth and I'm happy

Any queries go to the Forge section on here (Forum Sponsors) and speak to diesel tuning Guru Richard Washbrook

First of all welcome to the forum mtbdeano you will find a wealth of knowledge on here and plenty of people willing to share it.

I concur that Forge do some very nice smooth remaps and Mr Washbrook is one of the best in the industry, give him a ring I am sure he will be able to answer all your questions and doubts as I am sure you are thinking "should I or shouldn't I". All I can say is when and if you go for it you will think to yourself it's the best money I have spent.

Don't be afraid to ask more questions on here but please utilise the forum search facility as remapping over the years has been discussed in quite some depth so the information is probably already there if you look.

I'm just looking at graphs from a new Toledo 105 we had down at WRC Technologies on monday... 145bhp with 255ftlb. Look nice, and the car drives really well. Done a fair few of these 105 engines and they're quite impressive.

Kev.....butt out will you.

I think thats me they are talking about:redface:

seriously, the engine is good to tune, akin to the 100pd engines. Too much torque will cause you dmf vibrations though. In fact the VAG dealers in the UK have just issued a lot of recalls on the flywheels for 1.9 105bhp and 2.0 140bhp cars and vans???

If your clutch is already slipping in standard trim then get that sorted first or your car is not going anywhere fast.

The flywheel on most VAG cars is a Dual Mass Flywheel (DMF) and has weights that move out as the flywheel spins faster that help power delivery through the gearbox. It's the action of the weights that can sometimes be erratic and sometimes stick causing the flywheel to be unbalanced hence you get vibrations felt through the gear lever when accellerating.

Get your clutch sorted and the DMF inspected at the same time before you go for the remap in light of what you have already said.

when the dsg was first released all the owners were paranoid about tuning and the damage it may cause to the gearbox. My experience so far is the opposite and I have not yet seen one problem with a dsg car. In fact our current UK climate is causing havoc with tuned manual cars as the air temp is very cold yet the roads are dry. Lots of grip and conditions to give most engine torque will find the weak point which will be the clutch and flywheel if the tyres are gripping well.
My touran 2.0tdi has a slipping clutch in these conditions but only if I boot it before it has warmed up properly. I will only worry about the clutch if it still does this when the weather/temps have changed for the better. My Polo however has more low down torque but the clutch is fine, this is probably due to the fact that the tyres are small and do not grip and put the load on to the clutch. If the too much power/torque situation arises the wheels will spin easily but I would rather wear tyres than the clutch on this one.

With all that said though if your clutch is slipping in standard form then definately get it sorted and run in again before the remap

Yes I was one of those paranoid DSG punters, the thought of all that technology going bang was not a good thought.
Mine is fine so far, a remap would probably have been a better drive overall, but more expensive probably.
Yep, the clutches can suffer if we drive unsympathetically. My last car had such a problem , but I just altered my driving style slightly and no worries.
Definitely never give any of my cars any stick when cold.

my car is going in on thursday for new disc'c to be fitted (as they have gone rusty with only 2250miles covered) anyway i will get them to check the clutch while it is their! the only time my clutch slips is when my speed goes below 40Mph and i forget to change down from 5th the clutch slip's and it sounds like im driving a Mk2 escort with a broken prop shaft?

so i am paranoid about changing down now but with a few forums quoting about diesel clutch problems and my wanting to chip my engine i dont want to have to fork out for an uprated clutch just for a bit extra performance.

cheers
