have you had the original mounts replaced as these are VOID and should have been replaced under warranty for the newer design mounts that are used in the mk5 Golf...obviously they would only replace if you complained about knocking or vibrations.

mine were demolished after just a few months from new and SEAT replaced all front and rear mounts, apart from gearbox mounts, under warranty

I am still under warranty but its been in twice in its first year and all they did was clean the ERG valve and told me to do a few thousand miles to bed it in.

I wonder if they would replace the mounts if they have since been upgraded. Mine was one of the last batch of MK4, made so is this a kind of recall ?

Same here, I've had one mount replaced and it's helped ALOT!!! The mechanic who deals with gearbox's/clutches/flywheels said he couldnt get to the other ones.

I really do think it is the mounts......

any idea which mount you had changed in specific? to my understanding there is 1 mount under the battery case near the gear box which is probably causing the problem for me.

i had the mount under the battery case changed, it was just on top of the gear box, the mount was bent and completly fooked. got the replacement mount from a breaker, it came off a 1.4tdi vw polo. they have the exact same part number.
changing the mount has improve the car as it drives and the vibrations. however the major vibrations are still there which are due to the duel mass flywheel. it seems to be a common problem on these, if you have a 5 gear car it is easier and cheaper to convert it to single mass. mine is 6 gears so im just going for a standard FR tdi clutch and flywheel.

Sadly as others have found a SMF will not cure the problem. It must be a a weak fuel mix as putting on the air con almost stops mine, which must increase the fuel mix to take the extra load of the compressor.

Bloody annoying

Yes thats the one I had replaced as I think the other two are hard to get to!

yeah after having it replaced the car drives different... like more stable but the bounce shaking is kind of worse or the same. the last engine mount was broken in 1 place. the car turns off with a clunk and every so often, so i think the flyhweel and clutch is next to be replaced in my case.

the local breaker said he would take a clutch and flywheel out of an FR for 50 quid. so i might just get that... bit tedious though.

Did replacing the mounts stop the shaking ?

i initially didn't have any shaking and would say that it will be caused by the DMF to be honest...however make sure you get the bushes and mounts changed under warranty (if still within warranty that is, doubt they'll do it after 3 yrs)

mine's currently in under warranty to replace the wishbone bushes as i've taken it to be tracked once back in November and once last week as it has never been right and recently found out the bushes were gone and was the reason why the tracking kept going out. dunno if this is common or not but bloody annoyin [:@]

i took my FR tdi to another VW specialist, as soon as i mentioned shaking and the noise he said it was the dual mass flywheel, said theres a commen problem with these and hes had a few in which have been replaced. he kept the car and checked it once over and said its deffinatly the flywheel, and it could have caused damage to the gear box as well. he looked at the mounts briefly and said they all seemed fine.

so now before he takes the car in he said i have to have a gear box and clutch at arms reach as when he takes it apart he doesnt want me to waste time getting parts. more then certain its the dual mass flywheel.

diesels don't use the glow plugs whilst running, they're solely for starting up. I had my wishbone bushes replaced with the solid Cupra bushes as they were split and the shaking seems to have stopped...so don't know whether it might be something to do with the ARB as well as the mounts  all i know is that i have no idle shake now and the ride isn't much firmer than before, although steering is a tad more responsive

just as an update, i had the mount under the battery changed which was broken on 1 side!! probably due to the vibrating of the flywheel. this sort of made the vibrating more clearer in a way... hard to explain... then yesturday i had a flywheel and clutch kit put in as well as a new drive shaft as it broke... probably due to the vibrations from the flywheel when putting my foot down.

anyhow after an expensive session in the garage thought id have it serviced as well, and now the car drives really nice, the vibration and noise has gone, theres still a slight shudder every now and again, could be due to bushes or the bottom gearbox mount, but its hardly noticable by anyone other then me.
the car drive alot faster as well, when he opened my gearbox the old flywheel was F**ked and the inner gear box was scratched but wasnt damaged thank god.

so if you get this problem its worth getting it sorted sonner rather then later as the mechanic said if i had left it a while longer it would have cost me a new gear box as well!
