Right read this forum over and over, from what it sounds like, my coilpacks/pack has gone, i've tried everything i could find on the forum, i took each one out and started the car, from left to right the first 2 i did the couldn't would even start the last one the car started with the problem, which means it must be the first two or one of them, then i also tried smelling them but the all smelt the same, i have a 1.2 52 reg ibiza, if anyone could help me out i would be very grateful, thanks in advance

Easiest way to do it is to have the car running and pull the plug on the coil pack one at a time. When you pull out the one that has gone the engine wont change at all, but pull out a good one and the engine will try to stall.

There is a Gendan scan tool for VAG cars that costs under £40 delivered that will point the finger to the faulty coil pack - cylinder one is the one nearest the timing chain cover - cylinder three is the one at the gearbox end. I'd reckon that sometimes these coils will not fail on load and at low revs - ie at tick-over or idle speeds - only when under load and higher revs.
