In true Seat fashion, the car has developed 2 more noises - One I could record:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3pQLNVGRJQ

She's now started to squeak at idle. It never goes away, and yes, the Cam belt was looked at. Possiably the Alternator?

2nd problem is more serious, and I dont have any video of this - It's also hard to explain... Basically, when carrying out low-speed manouvers where you will neeed to apply full lock in either direction, the steering wheel judders a few times, pretty violently. the whole car shakes, and when you look at it outside, the cars wheels dont hold themselves in the direction your turning.

I'll get a video up of this tomorrow, but anyone had this happen before? I think the power steering motor might be on the way out?

Mine too has developed the noise on start up.It sounds as if air/compression is escaping from somewhere near the alternator but the noise does disappear when the engine has warmed up. Anyone any idea's ?

Squeaky Idle

Hi
My FR petrol developed the same problems as yours on start up, also went when warm.
I suffered it for a few months before I had to book it into the dealers (always a last resort for me whatever make of car I have at the time).
Anyway after the usual agro of getting the fault diagnosed they changed the cam belt, all pulleys and tensioners. Apparently taking advice from Seat, however they told me Seat would not let them change the water pump at the same time as a precaution.
Anyway, touch-wood it has been fine since.

try squirting a bit of belt dressing spray on the belt in the vid. that will at least tell if its the belt or whats being driven by the belt.

you say it never goes away, so does it 'squeek faster' with rpm, or only always at idle?

i know youve had other engine issues, but did any work involve the removal of the cam belt? does it change with the air con on, or while turning the wheels?

Had the problem fixed today.
Hats off to the team at Grants Seat in Braintree.:worship: Apparently it was the cam belt slipping/rubbing. Also had a noisy door mirror replaced under warranty with no questions asked. I will certainly be returning there should I encounter any more problems with my beloved.:D

Strange noise from engine

Hey people, im new to this place. I got the following problem and i wanted to know if it only my imagination or its really a problem.
I got a SEAT LEON FR TFSI DSG with O.CT tunning 235hp (bought it a week ago, second hand with 25,000km)
After driving it around for few days, which i must say i liked a lot cuz its hell fast plus that gear box is AMAZING.. i notice that my car makes a wired noise, as if its a diesel engine inside. i mean the engine sounds like a diesel engine, making noises and stuff.
at first i thought its normal cuz its a turbo engine and stuff so maybe its suppose to be noisy. but it just seems strange to me that a petrol engine makes this kind of noise as if its a diesel engine. now the car is under warranty and i have visited the dealer yesterday and he heard the noise and said it not something uncommon and if the noise gets louder then i should go back and they'll take a look. i didn't want to go back there before i found out if this noise is typical or the car really has an issue. i don't want the dealer to play around with the engine if its not necessary.

So my question for you guyz is, if someone has a similar model, does your engine sound kinda loud like a diesel engine even when idle, and if so, is it normal?

strange rumbling creaking noise when on full left lock on MYFR but still drivable no noticeable movement or play steering wheel not straight nothing new there.. searched through earlier posts and top suspension bearing mentioned called Seat Ireland advised dropping in to local Stealer Friday hopefully warranty job may get 4 wheel alignment at same time (although would assume that would have to be done as part of job if suspension removed will keep updated

Diesel TFSI :)

Thanks chrisboyle999

So i guess this "Diesel type" TFSI is a normal thing. Was strange at first to hear it and also lots of people were asking me "what is this, did you by a diesel'??
The top was when i picked up a girl and she asked me, "is that a diesel you have"?.. At that point i realized, if she can hear it and notice it, then its gotta be an issue..
But from what i read here in the forum, i guess this TFSIs are known for their diesel tone...

Thanks for the help..

Stevesulsh, did you get the fix you wanted? What were the sysmptoms of the steering, i have a bit of a vibration and dont think it balancing as had tyres done recently and were all done, i cant get past thinking steering rack or top mount bushings, slight knock when 'wiggling' steering wheel at rest and just feels twitchy on road, had 4wheel alignment done too and still car will pull a tad to one side making me think steering or top bush/bearing?

steering rumble

yep all done the stealers replaced both top suspension bushes which apparently seize or stick then transmit this noise down the suspension I only noticed it really on full lock at low revs creeping along. the mechanic who took it for a spin was really quite thorough and noticed it on opposite lock also although not as bad, anyway all fixed still have to get steering re aligned as stealers machine surprisingly wouldn't fit the alloys (only 17") but have found somewhere local with the right equipment

Im changing front discs, worn and feel a 'vibration' on braking, possibly slightly warped, balance wheels, if that doesnt cure it then look at top mounts and suspension more closely.

What mileage was your Leon at when top bearings went?.... as a 2.0L it is a petrol isn't it, same as mine and with DSG box

My top strut bearings and springs were changed on my 07 FR at 23000 miles. it was the top bearings that were noisy but some bulletin told them to change the springs too.

Hi, my car seems to have developed same squeky idle that goes away when car warms up. Do you know how they fixed it? Did they have to change the entire cambelt + tensioners?
