I started my car earlier, flashed up with a red cog saying gearbox faulty, it also said acc and front assist not available, restarted and was fine after, also no fault codes stored. Any ideas what could be going on? Cheers

Battery seemed to be fine, started quick and stop start was working so don’t think it’s that. Cheers though

My 280 does that about once a year. Turning it off and turning it on again has always got rid of it. I've always assumed (hoped) it's just a software error on start up.
It's having a major service this year including cambelt change so I'll ask them to check, but I've never had any other problems.

Ahh that’s a bit of a weight off haha. I had a major service and gearbox service last week and they didn’t flag anything up... hopefully Is a harmless error as you suspect

Mine has also done this 3 times in the 4 and a half years I have had it, the dealer checked it out after the first time, and did not even find an error code. They reckoned it is just a software glitch and nothing to worry about.

the 280 has a timing chain not a cambelt mate .

Yeah the place who did my service said it was chain driven when I enquired

I would get it serviced at a specialist if your main dealer is this incompetent.

I actually am going to use a VAG specialist, although that's because of cost rather than anything else. I've no idea what the difference is but I'm sure they'll change like for like!

I'm amazed a specialist would not know this, as all the ea888 gen3 engines are chain driven. Which specialist are you using?

I've not actually talked to them yet. MOT & Tax are due in June so I'll do a major service plus change the whatever all in one hit then. I haven't had a quote but they're bound to be cheaper than Seat's fixed price costs.

I'm planning on using http://msautosreading.co.uk/

So just to be clear, I had an email from Seat telling me my cambelt needs changing. Planning on using the specialist in June to do the job as they'll likely be cheaper.

My dealer told me when I asked that my 280 has a cam chain, and that does not get changed at 5 years, so unless you have a water pump problem that also does not get changed. The water pump and cambelt often get done together as while the belt is getting changed a lot of the labour is the same for changing pump so makes sense to do together and that is why you get a reduced cost.

Cheers mate I’ve read that post before as the same thing has happened to me. This time I thought it might have been something different as cruise control etc stopped working also.
