Hi Guys,

As i posted a couple of months ago, my engine went on my Cupra 290.

Im posting an update and to make people aware that SEAT are not that great with their customers.
I got told this week that my car will need an engine which was a bit obvious from the noises it was making, so the garage has put in a goodwill claim and ive been told my contribution is £2700 for a fault that was nothing to do with me.
I have asked for an explanation of the fault and they have said the engine has been ran dry and caused the damage, so i asked but what caused the engine to run dry ie a faulty oil pump as i have found out this is ment to be common on these engines from VW.
Their answer is we havent stripped the engine down to find the fault as we know it needs an engine due to the swarf in the sump and the scorch marks on the con rod, what kind of answer is that as i would have thought you would strip an engine to find the cause of the fault not just say its knackered!
So i have asked them to find the fault and they have replied that i need to authorise the extra time for them to find the fault and there is really no point as it will be the same outcome!!

Does anyone else think i need to contact SEAT Customer Services and ask what is happening in their garages as they arent really doing what they should be??

Sorry for the long post but after being told this close to xmas and waiting 2 montha for a 2700 bill and no real answer, im gutted and angry!!

For £2700 I would definitely kick up a fuss. Not sure if the motor ombudsman could be any help here?

I agree with your logic, they seem to implying that that engine failed because it was allowed to run without oil pressure, but how many engines are able to provide enough warnings to allow the driver to get the car across to the side of the road and switch off, before causing serious damage - they are having a laugh and you need to go public on this as this just is not fair customer treatment.

On the other hand, if you continued running that engine after the oil pump failed, maybe in a bid to complete your journey, then part of the extent of the damage is up to your response after the oil pump failed, even although that oil pump should not have failed.

Edit:- was this an Uncle Arnie Motors Emporium you are dealing with?

I wouldn't be paying.

If you have full service history that is up to date and proof that the correct oils etc have been used, then I'd be arguing the toss.

Good luck with Seat UK I have had a few problems ended up going to the Ombudsman who after a year went in Seat favour.

Wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the replies gents,

The car has just turned 4 years old but only 31k on it.

It was turned off as soon i pulled in, within 30 secs and then towed to the nearest VW Branch and then to SEAT.

Ive contacted SEAT UK today and they are contacting Warranty as ive got Techs from VW saying they have had this fault 3 times in the last year after its serviced they are ok for a few weeks then a shell or two starts to break up, then it starts to rattle and then its an engine.
They cars were in the 3 year warranty period and average mileage.
Ive also told VW Finance i cant afford to pay all that money so if i do have to they have to take the car back and they said i can complain and put in a claim against the car due to the fault and time owning the car.

Hopefully by the weekend ill have a good answer if not, its beans and toast for the forseable!
