Cupra manual question

I got a pre facelift manual cupra and I'm having gear selection issues when ambient temp is really cold, below freezing. I've tried realigning cables a few times now and it made a bit difference but not a lot. My question is, the car has a scoop behind the nearside lower grille that I believe would be for the dsg oil cooler, if it had one. As it's a manual it's just funneling cold air directly over the gearbox, perhaps not allowing the gearbox to warm up a bit with the engine? Does the manual gearbox need this cooling, would there be any issue blocking it up and seeing if anything improves? Next, I'm going to replace oil, but I just wondered about this cooling duct first. Any thoughts? TIA.
