Cupra VVT or non-VVT, differences?

I've read that the latter leon cupra's have VVT whereas the earlier models didn't. But I see that both engines are 180bhp regardless but I would like to know which category mine is - which is an early '02 model. Or can you tell from chasis no. etc.

Are there any advantages to be gained from having the VVT engine? Seeing as other manufacturers often use it as a way to increase performance, does this mean then that the cupra vvt benefits from better fuel economy than the non-vvt if not outright performance?

If you have an AUQ engine code then you have VVT. Mine has it, it was registered May '02. I believe VVT was introduced for economy/emmisions reasons. They are both 180 bhp stock, but VVT engines produce better results when chipped.

Pardon my ingorance, but is there an easy way to find out your engine code? Where will I find it?

Er.... forget that last post just found it on the pre-delivery document, mine is a march 2001 car and it has VVT, soon to be revo'd me thinks!

the vvt cars produce alot more torque when "chipped" revo apr etc than non vvt,as they have a larger compresser wheel in the turbothe vvt variable valve timing also improved emmissions as stated by du02

Just been doing some research, found some good charts with engine codes.
Whats the different between forged and cast crank? As i have the non VVT engine - APP block. Any idea what the max bhp can the Non vvt blocks can handle?

That list has not AUQ for the LC, and no LCR either, maybe its an old list.

AUQ is the same anyway looking at the list.....

Just look for your engine block code and match the year.

I know what AUQ is, and what engine I have guys, I was just stating that they are missing, and that it "might" be an old list, in case some newbies look at it

Read my posts again mate, I said its not on there for the LC. I know the AUQ is on there, but it doesnt show our cars

i would say the list is not the whole list as the passat eng code is listed 02 on!
not sure the upgrade helped effiency as i got a dec 01 cupra with the AUQ code
and although i do a lot of urban driving i only average 22 mpg! i believe tobe awful!
