Look at Garmin 55 also, I am using it and it has very nice video quality 1440p/30fps, 1080p/60fps with decent low light quality.
Additionally it has voice control, time-lapse, collision alert, lane departure warning, radar map which alerts you when you are near proximity of any radar. ( it has unique alert sound for these feature so you don't have to look at the cam everytime). Don't buy the wide-angle one.
I can vouch for this one also as thats what i have. really good. Bluetooth is great with the app for downloading vids/time-lapse and pics to your phone. Got it from Halfords with the hard wire and it was easy to fit straight into the fuse box behind the glove box.

Can't fault it so far.

I'm thinking of getting either the 412GW or 512GW. I like the idea of the magnetic mount so I can remove it when I get out the car. I realise parking mode would be great, but I know a couple of people who've had their front windows smashed and their dashcams stolen!

When you said you hard wired to your Cupra did you mean the MK2? I assume you went headlining then down A pillar? Does the A pillar just pry off? Sorry, know it's MK3 section, but not many left with MK2s now to ask.
No mate, was a MK3 290, bought it after an 80+ year old pulled out into the side of me, first of all he insisted he indicated ( and?) Then, as there were no witnesses, he said I pulled into him. Ended up going 50/50 much to my annoyance.
I used the Nextbase hard wire kit, used a trim tool ( oh ok, t'wifes spatulas ) tucked in behind headlining, then took trim off down A pillar. Took end of dash off to get to fusebox, and found a handy sxrew to earth it to. If I ( Mr Thumbs) can do it, anyone can.

I have been running a little mobius camera for 5 years now. Only this year, going with AXA did they ask if I have a dashcam. It just sits there well out of my sight recording. For £44 it was a bargain. Doesn't collect speed, just date and time

Another one for the Garmin, its so small but the quality is really good, even in the dark. The voice control comes in handy when you want to save something too. It's mounted with a tiny magnet mount in the windscreen, so when you take the camera there is pretty much no evidence that it was ever there.

Wouldn't be without it now, haven't needed it for insurance purposes yet but have definitely caught some clangers!

Got all 4 cars fitted with Nextbase 312's, they work spot on have been 100% dependable!

I would however note that in the Cupra I format the SD Card everytime I fill up as routine and format it when I've had some "spirited" driving, be careful not to prosecute yourself!

Dashcam fitting thread by Terryt, great thread with photos, it's a straightforward job.

It's worth buying a set of trim removal tools as they significantly reduce the chance of marking up the trim.

I've been glad of mine. Had one young driver smash their wing mirror on mine (which was unmarked) whilst I was stationary and started to argue it was my fault... pointing out the camera ended that debate.

I didn't remove the a pillar trim when I did mine, managed to get the wires tucked in under having a trim removal tool. Saved more time taking it off and putting it back on again. It's such an easy job to hardwire it, the hardest bit was actually getting the bloody glove box itself out to get to fuse box behind.

I've.got the nextbase 312 hardwired in my fr. With the windscreen suction mount it still just about sits behind the mirror but is barely noticeable from the outside.

Not caught anything of note on it yet but worth having should the worst happen and it's not your fault.

Must have talked this one up as nearly ended up in a shunt when a guy on the inside lane of a roundabout suddenly decided he actually wanted the same exit as me in the outside lane . Cutting across so late he almost went across the traffic island in the middle of the road. Haven't downloaded the footage yet though.

I bought a Netbase 512GW from Halfords and if you had them install it for £30, you got a Nextbase hardwire kit free, which cost £20.

The only thing I worry about with these modern dashcams is if you have the GPS enabled, and it's recording your speed, could this be used as evidence by the Police if they thought speed was a factor in an accident? It could work the other way around, where if you were in an accident, and another party said you were speeding to put the blame on you, you could prove them wrong.

I bought this half year ago: Mio MiVue 766 WiFi Touch - Full HD 1080. Very happy with the results. It has speed camera warnings which is a bonus :) Video quality is excellent

Vikram - can the collision alert and lane guidance be switched off completely on the 55 ?
There is already enough warnings in the Cupra 300 without another device beeping at you as well.

Cheers - at least I will only have to contend with the cars inbuilt stuff.
I think the camera and the speed camera warnings make it one of the better units around.
Halfords have them down at £120 online if you do click and collect - then the hardwire/park mode kit is down at £20

It has battery too which can record for 15-30 minutes without connected to power. I bought it for 200 euros ( quite expensive I know) despite some negative review by people complaining about heating issue and camera turning off itself. It works perfectly, never had any problem with heating ( its 41 degrees now in Madrid ). I think it was old firmware which had issues.

I’ve just fitted a BlackVue 590W 1channel dash cam. Great quality video, very discreet, app works perfectly and you can download the clips to your phone. It doesn’t have GOS but you can get an adapter if you want. The plus side of this for people with a heavy foot is that it doesn’t record speed.

The hardwired kit plugs into the OBD port and the cam has a parking feature which re it’s for a period after the engine has been turned off but still records if the car is impacted.

It’s worth a consideration.

BlackVue are the best.. though the price is on the premium side. I was considering BlackVue but the number of things made me look elsewhere:

1. Lots of wires hanging on your windshield, power cable, secondary camera cable, gps cable(? Separate unit with its own cable.. not intuitive).

2. Not needed the parking mode. Spanish law doesn't allow recording when the car is switched off.

3. Here you have more chances of people breaking your window glass and stealing if they see some expensive stuff inside ( I have seen even rayban sunglasses are enough for someone to break your windows. So easy on easy off was needed.

Apart from that BlackVue has very premium feel to it and their products are top notch.

Enjoy your new dashcam!! hope you don't need to use it ( apart from catching some stupid drivers )

All cables hidden with mine do one about 6 inches on show to cam.

I didn’t want GPS so it didn’t record my speed but as I like the cam I’m planning to upgrade in a year or so to one with built in GPS, so no extra cable.

It’s quite a neat subtle unit but I see your point re windscreen breakage. Just have to see what happens with that one. Apart from the dash cam I never leave anything on show in my car. Inherent mis-trust of most of my fellow humans...

Hope you find a cam that suits your needs.

I have a Viofo A119, its perfect cheap dashcam.

https://www.viofo.com/car-dash-cam/...fps-1296p-30fps-1080p-60fps-car-dash-cam.html

Bought it on ebay.

It turns on when I turn the car on and turn off when turning it off. Connected to 12V.

There is actually one problem with dashcam that in fact isnt a dashcam problem directly - it is not allowed in some countries, probably most EU and developed countries with strict regulation.

Before my trip to Germany few months ago I wrote to their and Austria authorities becouse I was passing through it and got answer that in Austria it is strictly forbidden and In Germany its complicated so I didnt want to take any risk, its like it is allowed just for your own purpose with no posting on YT or whereever becouse you cant make video of the people !? becouse they can sue you. So I couldnt make any video of that perfect road trip.
