Hi I have a Seat Altea 1.9tdi.

It's my wifes car and had it from new. (Got it Feb06) Turbo has died after just 37k miles:cry:

Is this expected of these as I thought they would go for ever if looked after and fully serviced?

Garage that I took it to seem to be having a mare getting it running again which is really starting to worry me.
Is it even worth taking it up with SEAT? Even though it is well out of warranty.

Anybody had a similar experience?

lancashire.
something has got past your air filter or via somewhere else todo damage to the fins, it is the bearings that go.
your lucky none of that went around the engine ect as this happend to me years ago with the tdi astra it nearly killed the car.

intercooler must of been bad tobe swapped , saying that it is better than around the engine ect.

thought the turbos were around£650?

From a dealer? No chance. Most folk go elsewhere for a turbo and just clean the intercooler out, a lot cheaper.

Ouch!! Just paying £1074 for a pd130 stage 2 hybrid, seems a decent price now lol

I think it is a bit more work when it fails rather than just swapping a turbo. I assume.

Turbo was £565
Labour £210
Oil, oil filter, engine oil flush, disposal etc £75

+Vat

Intercooler £198
Labour £120
+Vat

They did clean out the intercooler but each time they flush it through they found more small bits of metal... Thought it was a risk not worth taking.

That's the thing though, it's at least £50 per hour where as it's free if you're that way inclined. And yeh, getting the crud out the IC can take a bit of doing. I've read quite a few threads on exploding turbos on the tdi club, some just split apart with a big bang, bizzare.
