honestly i dont know but it worked. so that will do me . de pressurises the fuel system so gets rid of any blockage or trapped air i suppose.

Hiya,
I just brought a 1999 GTi 2.0L 8v Cupra sport
and i seem to be having the same problems as you guys,
I took my girlfriends parents up to gatwick the other day and the car just lost all the revs for a split second while doing 70 down the motorway and then picked back up, It did it a couple more times on the way there and also while i was driving home on my own,
Has anyone found what the problem is ?
Also looks as if it may be worth starting with the cheap fix's first so looking at cleaning the throttle body, and getting a ECU control relay and a Fuel Relay,
Can anyone tell me where they are ? Maybe even a pic or two as this would help loads.
Do you think it would be worth replacing the fuel filter as well ? And would you go for a SEAT part ?

Hey, I'm hopefully gona get a couple of cheap bits looked at this week. So far the list of replacements / cleaning is:
Throttle body cleaned
ECU Control Relay replaced
Ignition Coil replaced
Cranked car over without Relay to clear air outa fuel system?!? (worth a try)
Fuel Speed Sensor / Crank Speed Sender (whatever you want to call it) - this week
Fuel Filter - this week possibly
I'll take a few pics as I go and upload it all somewhere useful. I'm on hol nx week, so is likely to happen just after that.

They were asking for the model / part numbers for these bits, Could I ask someone to give me the part numbers if they have them at hand.

No, I was waiting for some kind person to post up the part numbers for the bits i need from SEAT, Seeing as there pretty unhelpfull and didnt know what relay i was asking for.

There's no F in Quality..
They have ETKA, software which should spoon feed the staff in finding your parts. I've not had trouble with the SEAT Cheshunt bloke who's a nice helpful chap. I've just ordered a window mech passenger side, all I gave him was my reg, don't see why it should be different elsewhere.
Try GSF for the fuel filter, probably cheaper. Before u ask as there seems some initiative lacking, http://www.gsfcarparts.com/

hey guys, unfortunatly my car is playing up aswell but i'm not sure if its the same as u guys, basicaly it sounds like it misfires wen i'm on full throttle but wen i drive normally its pretty much ok...how hard is it to clean the throttle body coz it sounds like alot of work?
Didn't have the right bits to get the crank speed sensor sorted this weekend, need to remove the engine mount to get to it, which means using the workshop this coming Saturday. Just want it sorted now.
Got the elect window sorted, £100ish from Stealership, but comes with all the bits, motor, nuts etc. I know the VW Polo suffers the same, but the same part was £130 and didn't even include a motor ....poor mate having same probs.
Worth replacing the whole lot, as a snapped cable is often a sign the motor is on the way out.

My issue seems to have dissapeared,
I didnt get round to replacing any of the parts so maybe it was just having a funny 5 minutes,
The only thing i can put it down to was the fact when i brought the car the acceleraotor peddle was nearly touching the floor, Thus not being able to open the butterfly on the throttlebody very much and when i put a circlip in to hold the cable there may have been some dirt in the throttle body.
Im pretty sure the throttle peddle had been like that for a fair few years since my mate owned it anyhow,

Got a local garage in the end to fit the sensor for me, 1 - 1.5hr labour.
I've waited at least 100 miles of testing to post the results, which are very promising. Car hasn't hesitated once since having it fitted, and actually feels a little smoother than before, especially from cold. Seemed ever so slightly lumpy on gentle acceleration previously when cold. 3rd & 4th especially, changing at 2.5 - 3k revs.
Got some good mpg recently too. Not sure whether this is just because of fresher weather and better responsiveness, but I'm happy which is the main thing.
Should have stuttered by now, was doing so on average once every journey. Seems like 3rd time lucky, after coil and fuel relay, speed sensor has fixed my prob. Cheers for the info, was mentioned that it was probably coil / speed sensor from the beginning of this thread anyway, but thought I'd do the easy / cheaper bits first, which seem to go completely after a while of being tempremental, where as the speed sensor just stays intermitent from what I've read anyway.

under the drivers steering wheel, there's a hatch, open it and take it off the hinge bits...
under there, there's the fuse panel..... look for a small black box with '30' on it... that;s the ECU Control Relay

I've been reading this thread with massive interest, so today I thought i'll get some parts priced up .. So I phone a local Seat dealership near Manchester, and I was shocked at the prices they where quoting me..
Fuel relay (Between £30 and £40 but they would need to see the relay)
Ecu control relay ( "" "" "" "" )
Spark leads 19.81 per lead plus vat
Dizzy cap £13 .64 plus vat
Ign coil £82.25 plus vat
Fuel filter £10.53 plus vat
Now, I work for mercedes parts dept and thought the prices where a P*** take ..!!
I think i'll be using gsf from now on..
