I dont find wheelspin a prob mate. I like slowly pulling away and getting top half of the revs wheelspin. Think i may need to grow up.

I made exactly the same choice a couple of weeks ago. I was convinced I wanted an S3, so went out and drove a few. Being quite honest I was bored senseless in the S3. There was nowhere near the same amount of feel through the steering, and they felt like you were more pointing it where you wanted to go rather than actually in control. I was also dissapointed with the aparent 'build quality' of the S3's I saw.

So I bought an LCR instead... Again..

if the S3 wasn't so overpriced, had the quattro system instead of the part-time haldex 4wd and was more entertaining to drive then thats the car i'd go for......... but it hasn't so i've got my LCR, the only real advantage is see the S3 having over the LCR is the interior trim. not worth the extra premium if you ask me.

I went for the LCR because I could get a newer, lower mileage, better condition car with similar - if not better - performance and IMO better looks for the same money as a lesser S3. Was a no brainer as far as I was concerned.

An S3 doesn't oversteer, well not as standard. The thing with an S3 is the 4wd is only 4wd some of the time. You can fit a controller to enable you to adjust it though.

Hey,

I have been looking for a car for the past few months now and decided to bide my time and do a thorough test on the ones I like. (After all, parting with 14-15grand is not gonna be easy).

I always wanted a Civic type R, so decided to test it out 1st. I opted to test a Black Civic with the Red recaro trim.
On the whole, it was fun to drive, looked reasonably good and was very well priced, BUT it just did not feel right whilst driving.

The next car I tested was an Orange:funk: Focus 2.5 ST.
The car was absolutely lovely. It looked amazing, drove brilliantly, BUT cost £20,000. Bit out of my range.

Moving on swiftly to the next car, I tried the new Astra VXR in a very attractive Blue colour. This car was definately the most fun to drive, but really didn't do it for me. Add to that the price tag of £18500, I don't think so.

Funnily, I seemed to have saved the best for last:lol: . Tested a Cupra R 225 in artic silver and was totally blown away by the overall package.
It looked excellent, interior and exterior. Drove like a dream, but most importantly of all, ONLY cost £14500. NOW THAT'S A BARGAIN.

I only needed 20 minutes of driving this car alone and I was convinced into purchasing the car.
I think I have only ever seen 10 Cupra R's in Scotland (FIFE), so the rarity was another factor that swayed it in my direction.

So, my honest opinion is that for the money, you cannot get a better all round package that has so much to offer.

Picking up my car tomorrow morning, and as some nippy ba****d on an advert says: 'I'm LUVING IT' [B)]

1st gear you need to feather the throttle quite heavily, 2nd gear in a straight line on a dry road will get all the power down with little or no wheelspin, obviously very dependant on the rubber. 3rd is fine for full boost unless cornering.

Tyre pressures are vital in a LCR I find.

I made this choice about four weeks ago, choose the LCR and don't regret it in the slightest!

I found the S3 boring in comparison, yes it is a very competent car but just totally lacks feel and excitement imho.

The LCR on the other hand just excites a whole load more and tends to oversteer a little rather than understeer like in the S3. I don’t find wheelspin a problem even with the TC off in the dry (obviously it spins in the wet but not as much as I was expecting).
Plus it can be fun to smoke some tires now and then!

S3 and your paying for the badge really, the cabin is a nicer area to sit in also. I wouldn't say build quality was any better though, most S3 and LCR problems will be common between them.

LCR vs S3, LCR every time for me, looks more aggressive, has the brembos, is well equipped and your getting a lot for your money. LCR quicker than S3 in real world terms also (not 0-60)

However mk2 S3 vs Leon cupra mk 2, i would definitely opt for the audi:)

Lovely cars:)

Hi mate,

Mapped LCR is fine to drive.............I get pretty much no wheel hop on take off, and providing you feather the throttle on take off you can control the spin nicely (same for most powerful front whhel drive cars), even had to do it in my old V6 mondy!

You will love the LCR...........It still makes me smile 2 years on! :D

so you saying, a standard s3 vs a standard lcr! LCR would be faster?

Course it will be:)

Same power and torque, less weight and lower transmission losses. (Probably 190whp vs 170whp)

S3 marginally off the line due to better traction, but up and moving, LCR is a little quicker:)
