Dipping wing mirrors? Can you do it with VAGCOM?

As the title, can this be done via VAGCOM? I have done a search, but can't what I'm looking for.

I've just had my alloys refurb'd and done in gloss black, and don't want to scrape them against the kerb.

I think you can set them with the MFD so only the left one moves independently - if on the right setting, the adjustment knob moves both at once - so you could use that perhaps? I reckon the same setting could be changed with vag-com if you don't have the larger MFD...

we had a new freelander while the volvo was in the bodyshop and when you selected reverse the nearside wing mirror auto adjusts in and down so you can see the kerb, brilliant! then pop it back into drive and it resumes the previous set position.

The Golf Mk6 has it along with folding mirror option and seeing as the Leon shares the electics with the Golf no reason it should not work via VAGCOM.

I could not get to work on my FL cupra. I set all the options with VCDs and no joy.
Some say you need the electric seats because the mirrors us the same memory, other say the some mirror motors now have the memory built in.
The best way would be to try it and see if it works for you.

My Toledo mirrors are based on the memory seats, there is a built in option that when you set the mirror switch to the DRIVER position, the PASSENGER mirror dips. Don't ask me why it is that way round, but that's how it is.

The problem I have is that it is tied to the position of the seat, and since I had a play around with setting my ideal seat position, the mirror no longer dips when you select reverse. There must be a way of programming it but I've not found it yet.

To be honest, I found it more irritating than anything, it takes a few seconds to wind down to the floor and if you're going back and forth a few times you'll be endlessly waiting for the mirror to keep up.

It might at least be worth setting the switch to the drivers side (you too hothatchsteve) just to see if it is there.

I did a lot of looking into the mirror dipping, and it is all dependent on the door control modules installed in the car. There are many different versions, which are designated by the letter at the end of the module number in VCDS.

The higher the letter on the end of the number the more features the module seems to support. For example, a golf which has auto-dimming, folding wing mirrors, which are heated and electrically adjustable with an integrated indicator will have a high letter at the end of the module number.

Long story short, the conclusion I came to was that you could enable the menu option in VCDS, but unless you exchange the door control module, which may or may not be an option due to it interacting with the central locking etc. then I don't think it is doable.

My CR FR has fairly basic door modules as it only needs to fold, heat and adjust. I have the details of the module letters and features somewhere, I'll see if I can dig them out.

I thought it was only linked to the memory seats too - not managed to get it working on anything other than the mk1 Leon Cupra I had with memory seats... oh I do miss that feature sometimes, wife uses her key and the seat/mirrors moved to her position, was sweet, shame they dropped it.

On the Golf, once it's been activated, I believe, you set the mirror knob to the 'L' position, select reverse, move the mirror to where you want it to dip too and when you take it out of reverse, it should return to normal.

My mate has a Mk6 GTI and it does it on his automatically, depressed me at first cos the leons cant do it, but then i found out he cant fold his wing-mirrors with the key fob, so i think i won that one

That seems like a simple and straightforward reason to me. The Leon is still built to a price and to undercut the Golf so would make sense that they would not fit a more expensive module.

Amazes me how VAG can have so many variants of a single part, surely to make a one size fits all would help economies of scale?

In alot of cases it does work like that, that's why so many cars can use cruise control without much effort. But if they can save by not including an entire module (and each module is a few hundred quid) then it's absence is a good thing.

I'm going to have a word with my mate who has a Scirocco with the mirror dip. I'd be interested to see what module is installed in his, compared to the one that is installed in the Leon.

If the module can be replaced and coded correctly to work with everything else it might work. I would guess that you would only need to replace the left door control module. No idea what a door control module would cost though, could be an expensive experiment...

Agree but often these modules just have extra components or an interface cruise is an easy one as it's linked to the ECU. The extra chip and components needed for this is probably a few pence when you ramp up in to the 1000's.

According to that there is only one module used in the MKV Golf and no mention of the auto dipping function?

The dipping function comes as part of the Luxury pack on the Golf with auto folding mirrors as well. Of course the golf has integrated turn lights and the Leon does not so maybe SEAT is a different unit?

There are a few variants listed, that last letter seems to be the crucial bit: K, L, N, Q etc. In all likelihood the Leon probably does use a different module, although there are some basic Golfs out there. It was interesting to note that there is a "min" and "max" module on the older MKV Golf models. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Seat are using the older modules?

I need to get my cable in and check exactly what module is installed for sure.

I'm trying to find a guide a guy made about retrofitting folding door mirrors to a Jetta (I think). I remember it having some good info on the modules and the coding. It was a red Jetta in the pics if anyone has come across it?
