Door Handle Problem

I have a problem where the rear driver's side door handle will not open the car from the outside. The inside door handle functions perfectly. The strange thing is once the door has been opened with the inside handle, the outside door handle then functions fine until the car is next locked.
I realise I'm going to have to take the door card off but does anyone have any insights as to what I should be looking for once I've done so?

This is most likely to be a faulty lock unit. There have been a few of these on here recently.

Do a scan with VCDS if you can to confirm.

I'll have to get my cable back off my friend at the weekend. There's no great rush to sort it, the MOT isn't due until July and that door is probably the least used.

I'm having this same issue, same door, same symptoms and everything! Is it an MOT fail?

EDIT:

Also, is the front module the same as the rear?

I've got the same issue on the passenger side, there are loads of spare parts on ebay for around £30

Is it a side specific item though? I can see plenty for passenger side but not drivers side, and also is drivers door different to rear door?

Yes, my rear drivers side wont open from the outside but will open from the inside, funny thing is, the other side is entirely the oppisite, will open from the outside but not from the inside! Really frustrating... my friends have to get in one way and out the other, haha!

I've also done a scan and no errors or faults came up at all...

Yours might be some kind of mechanical issue. I would get the door cards off and take a look. Although easier said than done because idiotically SEAT decided it was a good idea for the window raising mechanism to be fitted to the door card instead of the door, so to get the door card off you also need to either remove the glass or keep it suspended

With the rear doors you can get the lock mechanism out without taking the door cards off. Removing the trim panel from the door card will provide sufficient access. I've not dismantled a front door yet so can't comment on them...

Sometimes adjusting the cable from the outer handle can cure these problems, but it usually requires a replacement unit.

Electrical issues could of course be wiring related too.

Hey guys, had a thorough look with my grandad last night!

Turns out that there's a little childlock switch thing on the side of the door panel which is either on or off! God I feel stupid but atleast one of the two doors is working now!
