DPF delete (gutted) worth it in 2020?

Hi,

Do people still get DPF deletes in 2020? I know a friendly MOT tester so not a problem. But my DPF is constantly regenning due to lack of miles.

It's a visual inspection, if the tester can't see it's been cut open and welded back together it should pass.

Pd170? If so then yes yack it off and get it mapped to suit

I used pd tuning hereford to map my old a3 8p 170 quattro and it went like **** off a shovel

Best thing you can do to a pd engine they was not designed to have them fitted

Diesels are now emission tested as per petrols so with no dpf may fail an emissions test

In my opinion if your planning to keep the car until it dies, it could be worthwhile, especially if you have an older PD diesel. The new CR diesels are 50/50. For every person who had a delete and had no problems, I know plenty who still had issues. If you aren't doing the miles it's probably better to just get it cleaned, sell it and get a petrol.

I have a diesel but do about 20k miles per year. They need to be run on the motorway regularly.

Sorry to reignite this thread but 2022 has obviously brought about wonderful fuel prices and the need to go on regeneration runs is becoming costly. Are peoples cars still passing MOTs with gutted DPFs? Any input greatly welcomed

You shouldn't need to be going on regular regeneration runs unless something is wrong or you're doing far too much of the wrong type of driving.

My driving habits haven't changed over the last 4 years and until recently once a week was sufficient to keep it clear. I do regular maintenance so think general car health is fine but just rolled over the120k so not sure if DPF has just given in but now having to do it every other day. It's the pd170 engine

The PD does run abit dirtier I believe, never really designed to use one.

Have you tried using one of the DPF cleaning sprays? Pretty simple to do and could clean some of the ash out and increase the lifespan.

I've got 2 cans of spray but the temp sensor seems to be pretty welded in. Tried various products to loosen it as well as good old elbow grease but won't budge

You doing this when the engine is cold or when it's upto temp? Are you using a spanner to get it undone or a windowed socket?

Up to temp and with a windowed socket. I am going to give it another crack this weekend before making any final decisions whether to gut or replace. Just thought I'd ask the question because it is costing a lot to keep going out but the replacement (genuine) also costs a lot
