Just driven back from work, and got 59mpg. Don't think that's too shabby! Stuck to the speed limit (mostly) and flowed with the traffic. Lazy with the ACC on the motorway. But I wasn't hypermiling and I wasn't holding anyone up, so I'm very impressed with this! Car is a 2019 Xcellence Lux with the 115PS manual.

Well, it's pretty damn good for a petrol! I'm averaging in the low 50s. Got over 60 quite a few times on a run.

I think the Leon is likely better suited to higher speed cruising than the Ibiza. Small cars typically don't get brilliant MPG at speed, due to the aerodynamics. I'd be interested to see what the 1.0 TSI in the Leon gets on the same run as you in your TDI!

It does amaze me how much things have improved. My first car was a 1.2 Polo with 65PS, which used more fuel and was SLOW AF.

Some days my 1.0 sips. Some days it guzzles. It's very dependent on head/tailwind and gradient. For every journey I've done at mid high 50's mpg, I've driven similar runs at mid 40's.

It's the inconsistency that irks me unlike my last big Turbo diesel that did 44 every day around town, A & B roads or Motorway. It could be coaxed to 50+ on long runs but I loved the consistent mileage. Every tank 44mpg overall. And that was without ever trying. Getting decent figures from a 1.0 involves driving like a nun ( and help from weather and hills ).

It's definitely more variable than my old diesel Focus. But my long term average is 52 mpg right now which isn't to be sniffed at, and is better than the official figures!

By the end of a 15 mile journey from cold yesterday, I managed an average over that distance of 66.4MPG - that fact bored my wife! I was driving her mid 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 16V 110PS 6MT.

The best I ever got on a 2.0TDI SE Tech DSG was 64mpg on a run. I hear the 6speed manual 2.0TDI is more efficient. Assuming yours is manual?
Likewise the highest I've ever got on a 1.0EcoTSI Mk5 FL Ibiza was also 64mpg on a 20 mile run These were speeds of 40-60mph little traffic. Coincidently, both 64mpg were brochure specs on what to expect under the old NEDC fuel economy figures. Believe it or not, now that my super economy days are over now that I have a heavy Volvo V40, the best I ever did was 52mpg, and the NEDC figures are...51.4mpg on paper.

I did manage 57mpg on the Ibiza London to Manchester keeping it at 70mph CC, and 50mph CC on the 2 stretches of Long roadworks...so year, the 1.0TSI can be economical, but on mountain roads it can be the exact opposite...and the Ibiza isn't that heavy, imagine on an Ateca, or Skoda Octavia!

40-50mph zones, with no traffic, for long periods of time?
Yep, still very odd to get that amount from a petrol but I didn't have to stop for traffic lights, was doing around 50mph and was very light on the accelerator.

Yes i remembered at those speeds the instantaneous mpg would hover anywhere from 65-75mpg...

My current long term mpg is 53.2 over the last 2300 miles this includes some spirited driving cross country. I also have a 115 Xcelence Lux with a manual. I use normal round town and sport on motorways and dual carriageways. I currently have 13500 miles on the clock. My car is a 2019 model. I’m very impressed with it and get a good 450 miles per tank.

Very impressive figures there Ian , you say 'sport mode' , I don't drive an Ibiza (yet) I have an Astra and I assume your sport mode is the same as mine (sharpens up the throttle response and steering) ? If so I find mine drinks in s mode hence leaving in normal all the time. Although far more responsive and a lot more fun I can almost watch the fuel gauge drop.
Do you find it makes much difference on the Ibiza ?

Hi Dave, sport mode seems to sharpen the throttle response giving more low down grunt that helps when in higher gears and is also a lot of fun when driving on twisty roads. I would like closer gearing to make the car feel quicker but know it would effect fuel economy. With the 6 speed manual box you can do just over 60 mph in 2nd, 95 mph in 3rd and 120 mph in 4th.

That's crazy that a 1 ltre can hit over 60 in 2nd , my Astra does 59 lol in 2nd before rev limiter kicks in and that's a 1.6t 200bhp ! But it gets there pretty quickly.
Fitted with a gpf and gearing slightly different to pre gpf doesn't help.
I'm wanting to downsize in engine size and just love the look of the FR Ibiza. I can't justify 200bhp to go to the shops and back these days. Also seems the 1.0 115 is superb on fuel , another reason for changing.

Got 57.3 on a much longer run yesterday down to my parents in Wiltshire. Including some 'spirited' driving on some of the fun B-roads! Could definitely have got above that. It was much higher earlier in the journey, and only dipped below 60 at about Gloucester.

Seems like these little tsi engines are great on fuel. Some time ago I had a mk3 Leon with the 1.2tsi and the 1 regret I have when chopping in for the Astra is the fuel economy. Although my 1.6t has quite a bit of get up and go you soon get used to it and the mpg (to be expected) is nowhere near the Leon .I was even tempted to look at the Leon 1.0 115 just after purchasing the astra when the Astra drank a huge amount of fuel in its 1st week ! Size wise though I think the Ibiza is perfect for me and the Mrs. I just got to get down the dealership sometime.
