Well, I'd whip it off and have a look, make sure it's moving okay and not clogged up. As you need to remove the IMF as well to get to the EGR valve I'd also have a close inspection at that first and make sure the flap in that is moving and not sticking open.

The IMF is directly below the EGR, and part of its function is to close completely when turning the car off to stall the engine. The other part of its function is to part close when EGR is needed to slow down the inlet air flow. This causes a vacuum in the EGR system and draws the exhaust gas into the inlet.

Ok I will buy the the part either way and fit it if needed. I'm pretty handy on petrol engines but egr's turbos etc are meaningless to me. The car does seem to run well and return a decent mpg although its a new car to me so not the best person to judge.

Another vote for checking the IMF, as well as what Viking referred to it some also call it the ASV (Anti Shudder Valve).
I replaced mine on my old PD as it was stuck open (as mentioned, a juddery shutdown is a sign). It can play havoc with errors, unfortunately they are not cheap. I got a Pierburg one from ECP for about £130 at the time which was cheap.

I have seen people mention that the asv IMF or what ever name you fancy can cause the engine to run for a moment after you turn that car off but I've not had that

Mine didn't overrun, just felt like it was stalling when I killed the engine.

You can manually check the flap operation by temporarily undoing the inlet hose and have a mate operating the ignition, it should close then open.

I will clean egr valve on my own. I have two parts, magnetic and mehanic. I also have leaking oil from front hole. And this will help me.
