So last night I broke down....

I was driving home at around 10.30pm from work, when leaving the motorway I looked in the rear view mirror to see what initially seemed like mist/fog, first thoughts were "did I just drive through that?" then a message appeared on the dash to check coolant almost instantly, so I pulled over as soon as I found a safe place to do so, only to have white steam/smoke bellow from the front of the car :( turned the engine off, opened the bonnet and it didn't smell good!

Called Seat Assistance and within 20 minutes I had a very nice AA patrol guy come out, he pressure tested the coolant system and it was steadily expelling coolant onto the road, from what we could see in the dark on a single carriage way it was around the back right of the engine possibly from the thermostat housing? since I was only five minutes away from home he was happy to top the coolant up and for me to drive it home while he followed and I kept an eye on the temperature.

While driving back he called Seat's replacement vehicle team as I had explained I needed to be at work in the morning and needed to be setting off at 9am at the latest, they called me before we even reached my house to tell me they have requested the patrol guy stays with me while they locate me a suitable replacement vehicle which due to the time and day (Friday night) may be at an airport, we waited outside my house for ten minutes before I got a call to say they have located a Seat Leon at a closed Europcar hire branch and the manager at the branch would be there at midnight to release the car to me, the AA patrol guy drove me to the branch 40 minutes away and waited until I got in my replacement vehicle, which was a Seat Leon 1.6TDI Copa SE I think.

As I had to be at work in the morning they arranged for my car to be recovered to a local Seat garage at 8am, the AA recovery turned up at 7:55am and took the car straight to Seat and agreed to cover the hire car until they can repair my car.

I have to say my experience with Seat assistance has been very good, on par if not better than VW assistance in the past.

Does anyone know if my issue is a common fault or anything anyone has experienced before?

The car is a Leon FR184 and approximately 7 months old with 12.5k miles on the clock.
