Fr+ media system 2.2

I have yet to take delivery of my new FR+, so haven’t seen the system yet.

However, whilst at the dealership I overheard the sales manager talking to a customer on the phone about a problem he was having with the media system. Obviously I could only hear one end of the conversation.

When the sales manager got off the phone I asked him if there was a problem. He confirmed that there was, but a software fix was imminent. I’m not taking delivery until the 1st September and he anticipated by that time the issue would have been sorted.

Obviously this could just be the sales manager saying whatever he thought would placate the customers, either me or the guy on the phone. Therefore don’t take this as fact.

He told me that SEAT has some kind of issue with the 2.2 which can result in an odd noise or interference sound being played over the speakers under certain conditions. I think it was if certain other electrical systems in the car were operating.

I wonder if the quick fix has been to check for the noise at the pre delivery inspection. If the noise is found then flash the media system back to V2.1 to stop the noise.

When the proper fix becomes available the system can be flashed back to V2.2 with the software patch applied.

Has anyone here had problems with odd noises from the V2.2?

Has anyone with the V2.2 found if a file containing Points of Interest can be uploaded to the V2.2?

I want to upload a speed camera database.

If so, which database did you succeed in uploading and how well does it work?

Can pre-planned routes be uploaded?

Which file formats can be used for POI or routes?

I have an FR+ with the 2.1 Media system. I have just been told by my Seat dealer that they cannot upgrade this unit to 2.2 and would offer me £100 of Seat accessories instead. Seat had told him that 400 cars were built with this old unit due to short supply caused by the tsunami in Japan. Has anyone else had this **** and bull story?

All I want is a Sat Nav that works with 7 digits otherwise I'll use a TomTom. The car was ordered with 2.2 thats what it said in the brochure. No one said it hadn't got 2.2 - so i'm a bit pi**ed off.

I suspect if people are going to reject the car as being not as discribed then they'll soon find they can change them.

I got told this when my first Leon FR came with a standard stereo instead of media system 2, they said it could not be changed even though any installer can plug and play one in a few min's!!! Your's should be deffo plug and play 2.1 to 2.2 as they are both RNS315 I believe, I got £325 compensation in the end.

Do The 2.1 still use Teleatlas Maps ? It is the latest maps that have 7 digit post code, I've got them on my 2.0 with 7 digit postcode. Tell the dealer you want them to pay for the latest maps (V3 for the 2.0).

If the Media System V2.1 & V2.2 use physically identical hardware then there can be no shortage of hardware caused by the Tsunami.

The same parts would be needed to make both units and it would just be a question of what software to load. The Tsunami story sounds like B.S.

If it were possible to update the V2.1 into a V2.2 then SEAT would have done so to avoid problems, unless it means them paying the supplier a lot of licence fees for the newer software.

It also occurs to me that SEAT recently had a promotion of Kenwood Satnav systems. My suspicion is that maybe they did have a supply problem caused by the Tsunami and were trying to upsell people into that Kenwood unit, possibly in order alleviate supply problems.

Presumably SEAT either had a number of V2.1 left over because customers had opted for the Kenwood. Alternatively V2.1 units which had been ordered prior to the Tsunami were delayed, but have now arrived too late to be fitted to MY2011 cars.

I therefore suspect that SEAT had a number of V2.1 units in stock and either can’t or won’t pay to upgrade them. I think they are trying to use up that stock by fobbing them off onto the first 400 customers.

I have an FR+ on order for September 1st delivery. It’s already at the port and is coming down a few weeks early because I’m having a custom leather interior fitted.

I phoned the dealer as soon as I saw this thread last night, about 17:50H. He said that he hadn’t heard anything about this and it was too late to find out yesterday. He promised that he would find out today and I’m going in to see him later today.

I said that I would check the car when it arrives and before they put the leather in. If it doesn’t have V.2.2 then the goods are not as described and not fit for my purpose. I will therefore cancel the order.

As for offering me £100 they can forget it. The only thing that might tempt me is if they fit that Kenwood DNX520VBTunit in lieu of the Media System 2.1 at no extra cost. I can’t see them wanting to do that and anticipate I will not be buying a SEAT after all.

I am therefore putting the matter in writing today, requesting written assurance that the car will be as per the catalogue specification (or higher) or that they should refund my deposit.

An FR+ with the obsolete version would be a highly undesirable car from a resale value viewpoint.

Did anyone here opt for the Kenwood system?

I believe it was the DNX520VBT. What do you think of it?

It doesn’t list DAB as a feature. Since we are switching over to DAB before I intend to sell the car can this be added somehow?

Well said. I spoke with Seat customer services last night and they said they thought that there was no solution and that the £100 might be the only solution. "How do you feel about that and would it be acceptable" he said!
Seat have promised to be back to me within 48hrs. My suggestion would be is to get written confirmation from your dealer on the specification of the car you have just shelled out £20k+ on.

SEAT told me that it will be available as an upgrade but there were software issues which needed to be resolved - but they couldnt give me a date when this would be complete.

I suspect both units are identicle - I dont see why they would be different hardware wise.

Kenwood system looked ok - would you loose steering controls?

Assuming this is the correct then it states that the steering wheel controls work.

My concern is that it doesn't list DAB. Since the digital switchover is due that it won't do unless I can add DAB somehow.

Also the traffic information is subscription based on the Kenwood, but free on the SEAT Multimedia System.

I've just emailed the dealer stateing that unless he can supply the V2.2 or is willing to supply the Kenwood at no extra cost then he is to cancel the car and refund the deposit.

Edit to add

I just had a conversation with a man named Godfrey who is a SEAT customer care advisor at SEAT UK.

“Unless the dealer has told you something different, you will be supplied with the car fitted with V2.2”

Reject it now.

Bet things change.

Email to dealer, sent this morning. I'm about to pay a personal visit to the showroom, so probably won't be on again today.

Dear Mr *****

Further to our telephone conversation last night I am deeply concerned by the rumours circulating on the internet that some 2012 model year SEAT Leon FR+ are arriving fitted with the obsolete V2.1 Multimedia System instead of the V2.2 listed in the 2012 model year brochure.

At the time of our conversation (about 5:50pm) it was understandable that you could not ascertain the truth of these rumours. You undertook to find out exactly which version of the Multimedia System is fitted to the car I will receive and inform me.

In case the rumour is true then I feel I must set out my position formerly in writing without delay.

I stated that some features of V2.2 Multimedia system which are not available in V2.1 are essential to my purpose.

Unless the car has the current V2.2 Media System then I shall cancel the order. Therefore unless the car is delivered with the V2.2 Multimedia System I shall regard the goods as being not as described and not fit for purpose. I will therefore not accept delivery.

At the time the car arrives at your dealership we agreed that we should meet with Terry Reynolds to finalise the leather specification. At that time I will inspect the Multimedia system and ensure it is V2.2

Whilst the brochure terms & conditions state that the specifications may change as a policy of continuous improvement, fitting obsolete parts from previous model years isn’t an improvement. It is therefore not covered by this clause.

Obviously I don’t want to cancel and am sure we are both looking for an alternative if possible. However I keep having changes to the specification I ordered forced upon me and enough is enough. I’m now buying my third choice colour and have forgone the sunroof. I even accepted the extra cost of the colour change; even though it wasn’t my fault you couldn’t supply the car as per the original contract.

I note that SEAT offers a Kenwood DNX520VBT as an option. Subject to further checking of its suitability for my needs, I would consider this as an alternative to the V2.2 Multimedia System at no extra cost to myself. I’m a little concerned that the specification of the DNX520VBT doesn’t mention DAB. The digital switchover is likely to happen during my ownership of the car. Can you confirm that the DNX520VBT has DAB or can I somehow add this?

My wife is superstitious and is saying that this car may not be meant to happen. She is considering that this is a sign it would be better if I kept my car a further winter, saved a larger deposit and bought something else next spring. As a way of keeping the deal alive I might be able to persuade her that the DNX520VBT is an alternative, because it’s a SEAT option. However she is categorical that this mustn’t increase the price.

In the event that you find the car is to be supplied with the V2.1 Multimedia System and you cannot change this then please take this as my formal written instruction to cancel the order with immediate effect.

As stated by you at the time of the sale if you cannot supply the car as ordered then I will be entitled to a full refund. Please refund my deposit of £1000 back onto my card immediately.

Yours sincerely
