GT2860RS Vs GT2871R 0.64A/R

OK so I have the GT2860RS turbo, but CR Turbos have said they can upgrade the compressor wheel from the 60 to the 71mm and turn the turbo into a GT2871R for £215.

Should I stick with the RS or go for the 71R? Will I get bored quickly with the RS? Has anyone had both turbos and can offer some feedback on both?

not sure if its much help but i was running a gt2860rs and now running the smallest gt3071 and this turbo runs 370hp+ so around the same kind of power the 2871 can run depending on spec but mine is a tad laggier and requires to be revved a bit more up in the rev range which im not so keen on until i get valves but had the turbo off a m8 very cheap as the bearings collapsed in my 28rs as i was told it was a 2871 but after putting the part no of it through owens development site was a 3071,

if it was my choice id have stayed with the 28rs due to the bit more lag i now get but as i had no cash to fork out for a new one this seems to be doing the job fine even with the load scale turned down.

held power from about 4k to the red line 7.2k only thing is i dropped a valve last year on the way home from doing a trackday so not really keen on a massive turbo without the uprated valves id say its a better allrounder but others think othewise but from my experience i would of kept with the 28rs if i had the option although i did look at the option you are the 2871 upgrade when my bearings collapsed on mine, suppose if i went in ibiza alex's car i would say otherwise.

I have uprated Supertech valves in mine already. If the 60RS spools fast and holds power right to the redline I may just keep it for now. Increasing the compressor wheel from 60mm to 71mm has to increase lag. I'm not bothered about peak bhp figures, I'd much rather have a broad, usable power band with quick spool.

i would suck it and see Rob. Your new mani appears to give relatively easy acces to the turbo so changing it 6 months down the line to a hybrid shouldn't be more than a few hours work for you. I recon your 28rs will out spool your eliminator as it is plus i think across the rev range you will see quite a noticeable difference.
Your pulling very impressive bhp at the moment with your current setup which i think is helped alot by the extensive supporting mods (SEM etc) so i'd expect to see you creating more bhp than your average 1.8t user on the 28rs.

I have decided to stick with the GT2860RS for now. Once fitted, mapped and dyno'd we'll see what it's making and how it feels on the road.

I may wait until the winter and send it off to CR Turbos for the GT2871R upgrade for next year.
