I no this is very barry-boy ish, but money is very tight at the moment so instead of a milltek system or similar I am considering cutting open the back box and Gutting it, then welding it back together.

Has anyone tried this or know anything about the after effects? I have heard that the rear box is extremely restrictive so I'm wanting to get rid of it

Thanks

I don't have the kit to bend pipes and manufacture something to replace it. Would there be much difference between an empty back box and straight pipes anyway?

Just to give you an insight, my bro had his 1.9TDi backbox ripped out of his Golf MK5 by Kingswinford Tyres and installed a Powerflow Exhaust for him for £90 (3in Tailpipes) Dual Centre

How true this is I dont know, but I've been informed that fill the backbox up with water and then go for a nice run to get it really hot, then refill and go again. This will help rot the filler material.

My PD140 had a straight thru centre section.

Re the powerflow, it is down to the stainless used, and the quality of the work. ;)

yeah no rear silencer but got the resonated milltek centre section.

Noise for me is fine as used to civics etc.

But mine is the cupra so petrol tfsi.

reason they cheaper is because they use a cheaper grade of metal and the crafttmanship compared to milltek isnt perfect but good enough for me.

i wanted a custom pipe so i got it done there.
