Hard clutch

Hi I have just brought a 1998 ibiza and it has a very hard stiff to push clutch can anyone advise me as to probable causes and in which order it's best to go through a process of elimination.
Another thing this seams to cause is that under normal casual driving it gradually increases speed like it should but if you try to race the car so to speak in 3rd and 4th it revs up quite high before it has any effect at the wheels I am assuming the two are related.cheers

Two things spring to mind! you may have an uprated clutch which tends to be stiffer.On the other hand the high revs you talk about imop could be that your clutch is on its last legs!!!

Have had it checked at Mr clutch and have been told that the pedal box is knackered and has already been previously welded so needs replacing anyone know where I can get one and an idea of cost cheers
