Not enough washer fluid. This might sound dumb, but start simple, especially since all our cars are new (>= 2017) :sneaky:

My GF had a similar problem on her Toyota Auris, but only for the rear window. Turns out, there are usually two pumps. The one for the front washers is all the way on the bottom of the reservoir, and has access to the entire reservoir. The one for the rear, was located higher in the reservoir, limiting its access to fluid. Which makes sense, since its more important to have a clean front windshield, rather than the read.

I didnt get to the bottom of the issue with mine as I sold it after 3 weeks but when I tried to wash the front screen, it seemed to take an eternity for any water to come through and I checked the washer bottle and topped up, although it was nearly full anyway. Any other car, it has been instant but there was a massive delay on water coming through. That car only had 4k miles on.
Hope you get sorted.

The cheapness of the interior mainly. It felt like going back in time. I tried to find somewhere using satnav, a house number 217 and it said that it only went up to 97. I also used the satnav when I collected the car and it was painfully slow that I missed junctions as I had passed them before it woke up (and I'm a steady driver, I don't race about). That was just the satnav. The graphics on the infotainment system looked very out of date compared to other cars. The windscreen wiper washer felt like it was on it's way out as it took what seemed an eternity for water to actually show up. Very minor but just added to my thoughts of how cheaply built is was. I hated the cheap vinyl on the door cards. Alacantara was ok but the vinyl just cheapened it.
The only plus for me was the nippy engine but it didnt make up for how cheap the rest of it felt to me.
It felt very cheaply built compared to other cars i've had where their 'new price' was very similar. I thought the interior of my 19 reg S3 was boring but the quality was there unlike the Seat. I drove it thinking 'what am i doing, I don't need to be in a car that feels so cheap?'
I'm definitely not a car snob and I really wanted to love it and obviously didn't like losing thousands of pounds (luckily the merc i have now had been reduced twice and came with 2 free services so it balanced the loss out better) but I couldn't live with it. I think the 1988 ford xr3i I had in the 80's had a better interior regarding seats and door cards and that was donkey's years ago.

I think some of the interior cheapness is a feature of many cars in the small car segment that the Ibiza sits in. My 2020 Polo GTI+ has hard, scratchy plastic door cards (it does have a soft feel dash though, and all the switchgear feels solid and of high quality). Even the ‘premium‘ VAG brand Is using cheaper interior materials in their smaller vehicles - the current Audi A1 has hard scratchy plastic door cards, as does the Audi Q2. This isn’t just a VAG thing; I noticed that Vauxhall and Ford also use hard scratchy plastic door cards in the Corsa and Fiesta and I dare say other manufacturers do too.

With many car manufacturers the interior quality of cars within family car segment - the segment above the Ibiza - (Leon, Golf and similar) is higher and it‘s probably a deliberate act on VAG’s part to make cars in this (family) segment feel more premium compared to cars in the small car segment so as not to adversely affect sales of cars in the family car segment - i.e. minimising the risk of Leon / Golf owners downsizing to an Ibiza / Polo. You’ve not said which model of Mercedes you’ve got, but assuming it’s an A class, then I’d expect the interior quality to be a step up from an Ibiza as it’s in the segment above. Compare the interior of an A Class Merc to, say, a Leon, Golf or Audi A3 and I’d expect any difference in interior quality to be less.

I’ve never owned a VAG car with factory Sat Nav, but from what I‘ve read on various forums, it’s not great; slow to respond, and the process to update the maps to the latest version seems to be problematic for some owners. I‘m more than happy to use Google maps or Waze! 🙂.

If the car didn’t feel right for you then its best to cut your losses and move on.

Seat cars were always behind Audi and VW in regards to build quality so it’s no surprise to hear your comments.

Sat Nav has been an issue and as said it’s not easy to update it so you were always going to have problems with it.

Im sorry you had a bad experience with the car and hope your driving pleasure has been rekindled with the Merc.

No it's not an A class, it's a c300 (c class).
Sorry for the thread hijack OP, I just thought I would originally mention the front washers weren't functioning as they should in a nearly new Leon

Yes, that's what I thought, before I lost any more money on it. Other people, especially Seat owners seemed to love it, I had a couple of comments about it looking a nice car and then 2 Seat cars flashed and waved in one day. I haven't seen the flash and wave since the 80's vw golf days 😊

There is something about the SEAT community that does get you the occasional flash and they are a bit of a sleeper car.

We need more fun in the car community and it’s always nice to have your choice of car complimented.

What Merc have you gone for?

It's a c class, c300 petrol. 255 bhp 5.7 to 60 mph, so not quite as much bhp as the cupra but I can't tell and I don't do the traffic light racing thing so it's not noticeable there.
It's my 4th c class so I knew what to expect. No flashes or waves though now 😊
