help 97 2.08v rev limiter at 5k and stuttering..please help new owner

my 97 2.0 8v has a rev limiter at 5000 revs or it definately feels like an electronic limiter shud it have this the car is standard so im sure its not got any aftermarket bits on has something gone wrong or shud it be limited at 5k...i dont want it to be...and it stutters and missis under hard acellerating or up hill its got new plugs leads and dizzy cap...is there a sensor any ideas would be great ive always had golfs..i luv the car i just need to sort these two things..

Sounds like a possile crank sensor fault to me, had a few giving similar problems on the 8v before.

would it be best to take it to a dealer so they can plug it in to see if this is the fault i work near a vw garage if they will do it cos the seat on is miles away

are you using optimax by any chance? mine used to do exactly the same so swapped back to normal unleaded and problem went

it has had higher octane fuel in but ive run ever vw ive had on it,booked in to seat to be plugged in to there puter on thursday so im hopeing this will sort it..
