PLYMOUTH ENGLAND
Hi can anyone advise me ,I,ve got aloud screeching noise ,10 seconds after starting up ,but only on cold start up, I can come back to the car after 5hours nothing, Plymouth Seat told me it was the starting motor I told them I didnot think it was and £300 later I was prooved right, they said it,s the secondary air pump just the nature of the beast to quote there exsact word which I think is rubbish, it sounds like a barring going in the Turbo or may be the water pump any suggestions please! ps it only does it for about 10 seconds on cold start!

1. What car? Mileage etc?

2. Could be cambelt, if its only cold starts, when was it last changed?

3. Welcome to the site.

yes tick at 60,000 but i thought it sounded like cambelt in the first place, was supposedly at Lincoln Seat, but bought, car in Plymouth privet seller, was it done or just ticked?

Fair point.... i'd take it to an independant garage. Describe the fault to them and get them to age the cambelt for you. There wll be a vast difference between 10k and 70k cambelt.

:lol:I,d had heaIth test at Seat Plymouth, and they put a Starting motor on that I did not need, and had it for two cold morning starts and they said all they could hear was the secondary air pump, might take it to independant like you said or sell it and get a Cupra R!

Welcome

I agree with cupragirl, had same thing on my mk2 golf also did it at low engine speeds in the wet cos of the stupid position its in ie right next to the wheel so got splashed all the time.
The cambelt cant slip youll know when it does as the car will die instantly. Get someone to watch the belts when you start it you should be able to see it slip when you first turn it over.
