On a pitch black car park last night I hit the corner of a curb, car suddenly sounds like a tank.

Took it to Kwik fit (only place open locally today) and he's raised it up and shown me the corner hit the flexi pipe, and has said it needs a full new front, including cat. Is this right ? I know Kwik fit are sometimes known to exaggerate work. He would have to order parts but said I'm looking at a "good few hundred quid".

I will take it to the place that did my exhaust on my old focus tomorrow (kingswinford tyres) and see what they say. Am I looking at a kick in the balls just before Xmas here ?

I'm guessing that KwikFit etc only stock new sections of exhaust, so that is why they told you that.
I was one of those that got the flexi section replaced by a proper exhaust place. It is quite challenging for an exhaust place to replace, especially if it is the 1.4 16V engine as the flexi section starts just after a bend and very near a hanger bracket, so very little scope for error if you are to avoid the exhaust hitting anything after that repair. I ended up with a nasty resonance in the exhaust, so bought my own repair section and got the same place to fit that, they originally fitted all they could source quickly and that repair section was too short (flexi part) and too large a diameter, both issues that these experts said would not make any difference - it did!!

just get the flexi part replaced mate, try Hi Q, do kwikfit not replace flexi's i thought they would of done.
got mine done at Hi Q on my 1.8t FR after it was an advisory on my mot.

they will cut the flexi part off and weld a new one on, only problem i had was the piper cat back i had was too high and the tailpipe was rattling on the bumper after they did it so the guy had to bend the hanger to lower it slightly, perfect now :)

Remember to get the higher quality/temperature rated flexi repair section as that one is just after the manucat.

I bought mine from Senior Aftermarket on the advice of another forum user, that company manufacture for exhaust companies and it is the "interlocked lined" versions that you should be looking at.

I contacted them by phone and bought one for a 2002 Polo with a 1.4 engine about 10 years ago, very easy to deal with as long as you take responsibility for working out which one suits your car.
