See above for answer

Had an LC from new and was pi$$ed from day one.
About 1 month after getting the LC,Seat brought out the LCR.
Dealership forgot to mention that one
it was a must have decision.
Walked in to Seat and nearly bought an RX8 from the garage next door.
Wasn't convinced it had 230 horses so ordered the R without test driving.
Plonked down cash.
It helps to have a good income too

finance for me, need to switch it over to a lower intrest loan, got a new job which pays the amount i pay otu on teh car each month extra but only reason why i went for the new car was cause i totaled the old one and had no cash abotu spare to put down on either a new car or even a crappy run around. i subject my cars to hard driving with many many miles so a £50 jobbie would not last.
wish i could have walked in there with cash, but alas not. once day tho.. one day.

i put a deposit down, paid for the rest with a loan at graduate interest rates, then put the rest of my savings in a high interest account at a higher interest rate than that loan, so the bank is paying me for a loan cos i get more interest on my saving than they charge me on the loan

Whats the matter have a hit a few raw nerves ?

How you get your money and what you do with it is up to you, It's none of my business.

I was just highlighting that all of the people on here who have these fantastic cars are in no way the majority, there are plenty on here that aspire to a Cupra or Cupra R.But due to financial circumstances for one reason or another can't afford to have them.

I'm not being shitty far from it the lad asked how ? I simply told him.

I have been down the loan route for a car. And while it was nice to drive my LCR they are expensive to run. e.g.£250 loan, £400 insurance,£500 set of tyres, sub 30mpg so around £40-£50 a week petrol.so if you can afford that along side your day to day bills, mortgage etc then great, congratulations.

But if you can't then don't skint yourself just for a car.

I'm not bitter "Bin there ,Done the Cupra R" I don't need a car I've got a lovely Transit van it's making around 85 WHP :funk: its lowered with all my tools in it :D and it's got 2 foot wide go faster stripes

My R was just sitting in the garage all week then at the weekend I was out on my bike.It was just throwing money away so I sold it.I could go a buy one tomorrow cash but what for ? To sit in the garage again seems a bit pointless.

But however When I did live with my mum and dad I had loads of cars BM's Cossies all that crap and loved all of them so I wasn't knocking all of you that can do as i did .

So read between the lines, get off your high horses. I'm not on here to upset people just to discuss one of my passions with like minded people. If that offends you then maybe youre on the wrong forum.

Haha - pissed myself at that. Cheeky git!

No, didn't you know I am an adult movie star also? I work alternate weekends! Nah. I wish. But seriously did you know I have a second job on two evenings a week and the odd Saturday morning? I run my own karate club and teach there.

Looking forwards to going back?

P.s. Did you get my PM, Dan? How are things looking with the car?

without wanting to cause offence, posts like this are in the main a waste of time. why? because it's all relative. some people earn £10k a year, some £25k, some £50k and so on ...

I'm in the £25k bracket, so I drive a Leon FR TDi. If I was in the £50k + bracket it would probably be an Audi RS 4. same applies to property, holidays, amount of clothes you buy, techie stuff in your house etc.

Think you might want to take that back mate - gonna upset a lot more people when they get back from new years celebrations!
No comment from me - can't use that sort of language on forums.
i think more of the leon owners are family men (and women), it may be tru(er) to say that about the ibiza owners... :p

dont have a car, wrote mine off. dont have gap insurance... if you can, save the money mate, its worth it in long term.
im 21, at home with rents, im on about 25k ish per year...
The thing that i think jason was joking with was that alot of times, cupra R owners can indeed be young guys like myself who earn shed loads and do pay £200 rent or what ever.

I mean come on, can you run a Cupra R, with a mortgage, kid AND WIFE(most expensive bit!!) and still have spare cash? If you can fair play, i wouldnt be able to.
I drove a crappy rover, and i will one day buy an ibiza cupra (soon rather than later i hope) but im doing my best to avoid finance where possible. Its only caused me probs in the past, and i used to be a debt collector!! (doesnt look good!!!)

It is possible, but you have to work damn hard. I've got a mortgage (albeit not a huge one by comparative terms now) and a dog to look after, but I'm currently working for myself earning half as much as I was when I was working in IT. It all comes down to priorities... do you want a nice car and to live at home or do you want your own place (possibly with a family) and so potentially a not so nice car?

good thread this! it's interesting as we are getting to know each other abit more - ages, live with parents/own home, jobs etc

personally the first big purchase of my life was going down to the halifax and getting a mortgage and a house......a three bed semi [you know the ones with the bayed front window] but it needed loads of work, in the mean while i'd been saving for a new car so i had a fair amount stashed but instead of a new car it all went on doingthe house up :( so essentially i was driving my dads hand me down shity n reg rover 218sld  for a few years, luckily though our mortgage certainly isn't that expensive by todays standards - £400/month even with the remortgage, as property prices at the time we bought the house were just on the up, if i had waited till now to think about buying then i would still no doubt be driving the rover!!! so i bought my LCR by remortgaging a wee bit - i thought if i'm going to borrow extra money to do the house up abit i might as well borrow an extra 5k for the leon!!! we were lucky also as interest rates have dropped and our mortgage payments aren't that much more than they were prior to the remortgage......i am quite sensible with money - me and my wife's wages go into a 'joint' account and all bills come out of this - cars, insurance, house bills, food, petrol etc, then the money left over goes via a standing order in to our own accounts - £100 a week and this is then used for what ever we want.......kara might spend it all on clothes, or going out with her friends etc i might spend it on chinese take aways! :funk: and seperate to this i save £30 a week into an ISA for a little nest egg if you like, i don't dip into this i like knowing that i have money stashed away for whatever reason, maybe it's insecurity!!! :D kara on the other hand doesn't save a penny as she lives by the "you only live once" moto, and i suppose she's right at the end of the day.......so if you want it go for it!

Never had a loan for a car or any thing else. If I cant afford it cash I dont buy it(except for a house of course) My first car cost me 500 quid and I drove around quite happily for nearly 2 years in it. My second cost me 3.5K and lasted me about 4 years. I was mortgage free by the time I bought the LCR so I thought why not(was originally planning on the derv) Unfortunatly we decided to move to a bigger house(fromn 3 bed to 5 bed) which meant getting a mortgage. Since the LCR was costing over 5K a year to run it made sense to change cars to something cheaper to run(current one should cost just over 2K ayear) so that meant I could put an extra 3K into the mortgage every year and not notice a difference in my pocket. It killed to sell the car but the money id save in intrest i would have been stupid not to.
