Not really, I've had a Leon Cupra R loved it to bits.
I've now got a wife, house and two kids.
And I wouldn't swap back.

The first time you see your first child being born it puts things into stark contrast. You say to yourself " whatever he needs he'll have " Cars fade into insignificance.

I CAN easily afford a NEW Cupra R but I chose not to because it IS just a car Beautiful I grant you. But in five years it will be old and out dated where as my boys will have given me something new almost every day. Not always good ,but new all the same.

Now the wifes at work and the kids are in full time school I can spend more money on my first and true love.

Suzukis finest GSXR 750 K4 (Blue and white of course there faster)

The first time I saw my daughter, I thought "Will she sit behind me or Mummy!"

So there wasn't a real need for the post you made above.

People who live at home with parent/s with IT jobs and pay cheap rent are NOT Lazy people who have no intentions of moving out!

I'm only 22 and have a job in IT but that doesn't mean that I have no intention of moving out, getting a house, a wife and kids. All in good time. ;)
i have a house wife and a little girl and i am 24 but i always have to have a nice car its in the blood

My point exactly. He asked how do they afford it ?

There are two types of people that do it

1. young 'uns (as described above)

2. empty nesters ( like me)

plus people that work in IT are genarally work shy and are scared of the cold and getting there hands dirty (no offence)

Hahaah!

im actually in IT......pulling £25k+ but i suppose debts from my previous life (student) have left me in the shitter currently, also why i buy my £130k house its difficult...

The seat Ibiza is an idea, theres some nice cupra ones available, just the size if a problem due to be carrying around equipment....but its defo something im going to look at...

I was just interested how people buy these expensive cars....

£15k is a LOT of money. Mind u my mates are single, work in IT and live at home with little out goings and one has a Audi A3 Quatty and the other a Smart Brabus Roadster! :S They can afford the repayments, but they can't afford to buy there own house any more and are both single and are set to be for a while..

don't get me wrong, my missus and me both work on over £25k each but still the money gets eaten up every month....bank of mum and dad have helped already and im not keen on sponging back off them, but i think my Rover (piece of ****) is so knacered now that it will have to go and il have to borrow off them to get another car thats all.....

Im glad some people have nice cars, i think il have to do defo do some sideline PC work to get some pennies in!!!

Mind u getting married don't come cheap either.......I also have a Golf GTI mk2...(well claire does) and i love that and always have loved my mk2's! Had a lovely 16valver til one of my friend wrote it off!!! GRrrrrrrrrrrrrr

None taken. The key word in there was "generally"!

I'm am certainly not scared of getting my hands dirty. Been a labourer before and been fixing/modifying cars since I was 17 (Changing engines etc ;) )

Depends what you want in life.

Some people smoke, some drink, some pump snow up their nostrils, others have kids, some do all the above.

I'm not discounting the LCR is expensive when you look at running costs and expenses (service / insurance / fuel / tax etc...), but its one of the cheap super hatches. No Golf GTi or R32 / Audi S3 / BMW 1 series M Sport.

I'm 32, have just bought a new house and have a new Cupra R, but we decided due to fortunate circumstances to run a one car family as me & the missus work at the same place and we also have a free work bus in proximity for work. We don't have kids, don't drink or smoke and my bad habits are modding, and techie gadgets. We pay a mortgage, don't have parental loans, but used a 3yr share scheme to fund 60% of theh Leon. A car sale to fund the rest.

There are low cost loans out there for 5yrs+, but remember you don't want to be paying it off after the car is long gone so choose terms carefully and ensure you buy gap insurance to mitigate risk (so if it was written off the insurance repayment would then cover the loan debt).

Got my first LCR at 30, but have never lived at home since leaving school. Lupo GTi was first decentish car (bought new when I was 27). Before that all old VW GTi's in my early 20's. You'll see a lot of early LCR's come up for sale after a second service - those who can't afford them get rid of them then when all the tyres, brakes need replacing and the service, insurance and tax all come in together.

The young ones who do have the LCR's obviously have better jobs than I did. When I left uni in 95 I was on 12k a year paying Oxford rents and that left the slack for an 11yr old Mk1 Golf GTi run on a shoestring budget!!! Still enjoyed it though. Good things come to those who work hard and wait a bit!!!

Mark 1 Cupra 20VT's go for around £5K for high milers. There's one out there for every budget see how much you can afford and see what there is out there.

Personaly i like the Mark One Cupra pre-facelift have it re-mapped and sort the suspension it would be a cracking Q-car in a nice dark mettalic Blue.

But then again I like the No show all go approach

Had an S3 - cost me 21K (used car a couple of years old) at the age of 21. I then bought a new LCR that cost 18K. I am now 23 (just turned) driving a Jabbad LCR and I can tell you, they are the same car and cost very similar amounts to run.

p.s. This goes out to Mr Jealous, I work bloody hard for my money. I am driving the LCR because they are a fast car with good kit, and I can't get insured on much better (Porsche, Evo, M3, TVR) until I am 25. By then I'll have even more monaaaaaay.

Rant over.

Bitter are we?

Yes I am about to have a 25K job in IT out of uni, but I DONT sit around on the Internet all day.. Far from it!

I haven't lived at home since I was 18 (22 now) and purchased mine 18 months ago (10 grand cash) through money made on investing in the stock market and saving lots during my year in industry.

Sh*tty posts like Jason Leese's are why I've stuck to the other forum for the last couple of years. Who cares how people afford their cars? If you've bought a house, I'm sure you'll have no problems with the process of buying a car whether it be by finance or by any other means.

For somebody to generalise about others is quite frankly out of order. I've been in the Armed Forces for 8 years in an Infantry Regiment. I've had my hands dirtier than most people have a right to, I'm not complaining, it was my choice. I've never had a penny from my parents since I've had a job, much less since I've been married and have my own house but I'm not going to rip into those that have had a loan/handout from Mum and Dad, nice if you can get it.

I'm good at my job and I've done loads of courses, so I've gone through the ranks quite quickly and now make pretty good money and I'll have a pretty unbeatable pension when the time comes. What people do with their money, regardless of how they come by it, is none of anybody elses business, period.

I choose to have a reasonable car. Lets get it straight from the outset, a SEAT Leon whether it be a 1.4S or a Cupra R, is a family hatchback. Its not and never will be in the same league as a 911, a Ferrari, a Pagani or anything of that ilk. Some on this site have got it in their heads that Leon's are some sort of supercar, they're not, not in any form.

If your financial priorities, like most people's lie in something other than a car, namely a house, kids, providing for the future, then £7.5k-£8k on a 2001/02 low mileage Leon Cupra is pretty hard to beat. Thats the route I went down, shopped around and paid cash. I could have spent/borrowed a fortune on a new/nearly new M3 or something like it but for what? To have a BMW badge or a new number plate on my drive? No thanks, I'll leave that to the Jones's of this world and other t*ts of their ilk.

The upshot of this is that I have a car thats fast enough and is in absolutely mint condition, far better nick than 99% of 6 month old cars in the UK. I'm spending a bit of money on it each month in ways that I see fit, money that would otherwise have been making the shareholders of a car or finance company that bit richer.

Paid for mine in full, with the GAP insurance as well. Saved for nearly 2 years to be able to afford it. Needed a small loan to make all the money up, but that loan was paid up in 3 months of having the car, the only reason i needed it was I had cash tied up elsewhere.

I've just got an LCR which was paid for in part by selling the astra and the rest of it was a loan from work.

I'm an essential car user so work offer a nice cheap loan to fund a car for work use: providing it's an appropriate car of course... What could be better than a 1.8 5 door ;) mwhahahahhaha

The repayments also come out of my pay before I even get it, which is nice. :)

Do they offer 0% as standard on all cars or was it just an offer?

Which dealer?

Think you might want to take that back mate - gonna upset a lot more people when they get back from new years celebrations!
No comment from me - can't use that sort of language on forums.
