God!!

Had some serious action on the way to work this morning with a MG ZT...!

Boy!! They are quick!! :-o

I had to really give it some to keep up... and then just when I caught up and started to pull - another car came infront :(

Thank goodness for Brembo's ;)

Takes no effort to give a car power & torque and go fast in a straight line.

Doesn't make it a decent car though. They are rubbish. They handle bad (note MG, just making suspension rock hard does not equal great handling), they are ugly, they are poorly made.

I'd rather be a slow decent car than a fast MG (remember, there is a Rover 75 version with the 4.6 litre Mustang V8).

I beg to differ.

A mate of mine is on his second ZT (the big one) after the first one saved him serious injury in a crash. The car feels very well planted when I'm in it, and certainly no more harsh a ride than in my LC. Grip is phenomenal and it sounds very nice. Interior quality is as good, if not better than mine.

Let's not forget, I think I'm right in saying, this car was developed by BMW when they owned Rover/MG, and they are pretty good at driving dynamics.

As for looks, well, there's no accounting for taste.

You should try driving it then. I had one for 3 months, a few cars ago now. And it was a death trap on the 70 miles of twisty bumpy b roads i drive to work. I think it would handle well on an extremely smooth race track or the like, but if you are turning a corner and it hits a bump, its more luck than judgement that you're not in a field. It was a quick car, but it took me almost 15 minutes longer than my best time down the same road.

I'm afraid this isn't based on personal experience, but I have to say I just hate Rovers. When I met my current wife she had a Rover 200 Turbo (Coupe style) and within 3 months she was out of it and into a SEAT.

I think its impressive that somehow they managed to make MG's that appealed to a certain market, and weren't awful to drive (or so I'm told), based on the age of the platform / available technology.

That said its just one car that I have absolutely no desire to own EVER. I'd happily own a Skoda, but a Rover. No way. Not very patriotic but I'm entitled to my opinion.

Not bad given that the most powerful ZR is 160bhp and based on a car that's about 20 years old. You're my new hero! :D

There not all that bad, Ive had a bog standard mg zr 105 which tbh was poorly made and imo everything just looked like it was stuck on. Was just cheap and nasty. Allthough I then moved on to a monogramed zr 160 which was the complete opposite was better in every way maybe that was due to the monogram extras?
But anyway my m8 has the 2.5 v6 mg zt which is a very nice car and for the price you can get them at these days probably one of the best cars going for the money. Also that 4.8 260 mg zt sounds like a complete beast and a bargain, bet it drinks the fuel though?

I went into a rover dealer a few years ago and had a look around the ZR. I was put off (not that I was really interested) by the appalling interior and the drum brakes on the rear wheels.
