First off its great to be in a forum where i can get as much information as i think i will be able to from you guys

I am in an unfortunate position... I own a 9N3 Polo GTI, which is basically now a write off from body damage... Insurance wont cover me cos of a few reasons... I wont get much for the car from a wrecker, or from a private sale.

The good news.. The motor and all ancillaries (turbo, I/C, all bits and pieces...) are intact. The car starts and drives (with a little bit of suspension arm damage at the front), but the body damage will cost about 11K to fix (Im in Australia).

What i want to do is buy a MK2 Ibiza GTi/ or base model here in Australia for about 5K, and drop the 20 Valve Turbo from the Polo into the Ibiza. Can anyone give me any advice as to how difficult this is?? Did the MK2 (1995 - 2000?) come out with the 1.8 20VT?? If so it really shouldnt be that difficult to drop it in... Otherwise how much work is there with engine mounts and the such?? will the gearbox from the polo bolt up underneath the Ibiza?? I have had the APR flash tune done to my Polo... if i drop the 20V engine into the Ibiza.. Will this tune still exist??

Ok guys, i know they must be newbie questions there.. but any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Kris

Hi kris, its a shame about the 9n3, lovely cars

Well a few people have put 1.8 20vt's into their ibiza ("ibiza 95", "martin m", "roly", I would read their pages)

I'm pretty sure the 9n3 has same mounts as the mk2 ibiza, but most the time over here people shove the engine from a mk3 ibiza cupra in for ease

When people put new engines in golfs (like I seen a 2.0 tsfi in a mk2 golf the other day) they put in the dash, clocks etc so they can run the standard transplants ECU so I would look into this as it might make it easier :)

As you have the whole car it will be a simpler swap. Just make sure you don't sell anything or throw it away till the ibiza is finished.

Ibiza_95 used a mk4 golf engine which went in no problems and used QPeng ecu/loom to get it running, and martin m and roly used mk3 cupra engines and used the dash and clocks from that aswell.

As Mike says, just dont sell/scrap the polo or any parts until the Ibiza is 100% finished.

Hey guys, thanks for the response.

Sweet, so my motor should fit in there no worries. From memory there isnt much difference in the 1.8T's out of the polo and the mk3 Ibiza.. except for aesthetics. I could possibly even get away with using the stock polo exhaust.. i think the floor plan for the ibiza and the polo are much the same..

Since the Mk3 Ibiza shares the same platform as the 9N Polo (I think) should the dash from the Polo fit into a MK2 Ibiza?? god im sure i am going into unmarked territory here...

Could i use the disk brakes from the Polo on the Ibiza?? I think a lot of the Ibiza's over here in australia came with drums on the back.. not 100% sure.

Cheers guys.

Could use the brakes on the Ibiza but i think you'd need to swap the whole hub over as its 4 stud to 5 stud from memory.

Engine should slot straight in, think you can even get away with the 2.0litre 16v mounts, I think you may need a custom exhaust to go on though.

Whether you take the dash over depends on how good an auto electrician you are, if you want it simple getting polo dash in the Ibiza is simplest in terms of electrics. However if the polo dash won't find you gonna have to do some serious re wiring.
